Grade 409 is a stabilized ferritic stainless steel tube renowned for its utility in general purposes, featuring 11% chromium content. This alloy is exceptionally suited for environments demanding oxidation or corrosion resistance that surpasses the capabilities of carbon steel and certain coated steels. While Grade 409 boasts impressive oxidation resistance and formability, its lower chromium content does translate to decreased corrosion resistance compared to Grades 304, 430, or 439-but it outperforms mild steel. This material is versatile in forming applications, including roll forming, stretch bending, deep drawing, and press forming. Post-annealing, 409 remains non-hardenable even when subjected to cold treatment through warm and roll forming techniques such as press or stretch bending. It offers commendable weldability but is not ideal for shock-loaded structures due to grain growth in the heat-affected zone, which compromises mechanical quality. Widely adopted in the automotive industry, particularly in exhaust systems, 409 stainless steel is also beneficial in agricultural settings. It excels in resisting corrosion from exhaust gases and high-temperature conditions, where mechanical properties take precedence over aesthetic considerations. Thus, it is not recommended for decorative applications.

CORROSION RESISTANCE:
