CORROSION RESISTANCE Alloy 2205 excels in resisting chloride-induced pitting and stress corrosion cracking, ensuring longevity and reliability.
ELEVATED TEMPERATURE RESISTANCE According to the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Alloy 2205 can be used up to 600°F (315°C). Prolonged exposure to higher temperatures, however, may result in embrittlement.
MECHANICAL PROPERTIES Alloy 2205 is renowned for its strength, boasting more than twice the strength of conventional austenitic stainless steels in the annealed condition. It is available in a cold-worked condition with yield strength exceeding 160 ksi and maintains good toughness even at temperatures as low as -50°F (-10°C).
WORKABILITY Alloy 2205 can be cold-formed but has a high work-hardening rate, necessitating intermediate anneals. Post-forming annealing is recommended to achieve optimal stress corrosion resistance.
Our forming capabilities are unrivaled, featuring advanced extrusion and cold working technologies for tube and pipe manufacturing. We pride ourselves on having one of the world's largest pilger mills and a unique hydroforming process for precision fittings.

Duplex 2205 stainless steel pipe is a high-performance duplex ferritic-austenitic stainless steel, featuring an impressive composition of 22% chromium, 3% molybdenum, and 5-6% nickel. Renowned as the most commonly utilized duplex stainless steel grade, it boasts a yield strength twice that of standard austenitic grades. Its exceptional fatigue strength, coupled with outstanding resistance to stress corrosion cracking, crevice corrosion, pitting, erosion, and general corrosion, makes it ideal for the harshest environments.
Most duplex 2205 steel pipe manufacturers recommend maintaining a maximum hot forming temperature between 2010 and 2100°F (1100 to 1150°C). If the workpiece is not uniformly compact, the edges may cool faster than the bulk, increasing the risk of cracking in these cooler areas.
The Duplex 2205 Stainless Steel Tube is renowned for its excellent formability across diverse manufacturing processes. Despite its remarkable strength posing some challenges, even powerful equipment can manage it effectively by accounting for the higher springback attributed to this grade. The resilience and robustness of Duplex 2205 demand mindful handling in production.
Machining Duplex 2205 requires more effort compared to the 300 series austenitic stainless steels due to its formidable composition. Elevated cutting forces and accelerated tool wear are common, but these guidelines can optimize the process: A) Utilize a robust, rigid machine with firmly mounted tools and workpieces; B) Keep tool extensions minimal to reduce vibration; C) Ensure the tool nose radius is just sufficient for a sharp carbide edge without compromising strength; D) Sequence operations so that each cut penetrates beneath the work-hardened surface from prior operations.
