Grade 2 titanium tubes are the go-to choice for industrial applications, offering an excellent balance of moderate strength and reasonable ductility. They provide outstanding corrosion resistance in both highly oxidizing and slightly reducing environments, including chlorides. Grade 2 tubes are ideal for use in the chemical and offshore industries, aircraft manufacturing, heat exchangers, hypochlorite systems, fire water systems, ballast water systems, CPI equipment, and industrial and aerospace components.

Fabrication

Titanium Grade 2 is highly responsive to cold forming using standard techniques. Machining is straightforward, provided that sharp tools are maintained and coolant is used liberally. Similar to machining austenitic stainless steels, cuts should be deep and continuous with slow feeds and speeds.

Stock Availability

Daxun Alloys maintains a robust inventory of CP 2 Grade Titanium Seamless and Welded Pipes in various sizes to meet diverse needs.

Weight Reduction

CP 2 grade titanium tubes feature a low density and a high strength-to-weight ratio, ideal for applications requiring weight reduction without compromising strength. These tubes are cold formable, possess good ductility, and can be welded using conventional TIG and MIG methods, with inert gas shielding necessary to prevent weld zone embrittlement.

Crystal Structure

At room temperature, ASTM B338 Grade 2 titanium tubes display an alpha (hexagonal close-packed) crystal structure, similar to commercially pure grades 1 and 3. At approximately 885°C (1625°F), they transition to a beta (body-centered cubic) structure. This transformation temperature can vary based on impurities or alloying additions. Alloying elements segment the single equilibrium transformation temperature into alpha and beta transformation zones. Below the alpha transformation temperature, the alloy is purely alpha; above the beta transformation temperature, it is purely beta. Between these two temperatures, both alpha and beta phases coexist. Typical transformation temperatures for Grade 2 titanium are approximately 890°C (1635°F) and 913°C (1675°F).

Grade 2 Titanium Seamless Pipe Manufacturing Process

Daxun's ASTM B338 Grade 2 titanium seamless tubes are meticulously crafted from hollow blanks via hot extrusion or oblique rolling and piercing processes, followed by multiple cold rolling stages. At every step, titanium seamless tubes must have continuous perimeters. The manufacturing process includes: sponge titanium vacuum arc melting to form ingots, blanking to create hollow blanks, cleaning, cutting and feeding, hot extrusion or oblique rolling and piercing, degreasing, drying, cutting, online annealing and straightening, pickling, multiple cold rolling, degreasing, drying, vacuum annealing, straightening, cutting, pickling, final inspection, marking (DAXUN), and packaging.

Grade 2 Titanium Welded Pipe Manufacturing Process

Daxun's ASTM B338 Grade 2 titanium welded pipe is meticulously crafted from annealed flat-rolled steel plate or steel strip using an advanced automatic arc welding (TIG) process. The comprehensive production process includes: titanium plate uncoiling, precision shearing, butt welding, meticulous cleaning, pipe forming, TIG welding, eddy current testing, pre-sizing, annealing, precision reducing and sizing, straightening, secondary eddy current testing, caliper marking, precision cutting, ultrasonic testing, hydrostatic testing, final inspection, and secure packaging. Each welded pipe undergoes at least one stress relief heat treatment post-formation and welding to ensure impeccable quality. Notably, Daxun does not utilize any filler materials during the welding process.

Ti-6Al-4V Titanium Pipe - Grade 5 Titanium Tube

Titanium Alloy - (UNS R56400)
Introduction
DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Titanium Tube, Grade 5 (UNS R56400) is renowned as the most popular titanium alloy. This duplex alpha+beta titanium alloy incorporates aluminum as the alpha stabilizer and vanadium as the beta stabilizer, resulting in a high-strength material usable at low temperatures up to approximately 800°F (427°C). The ATI Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy is ideal for annealing, solution treating, and aging processes. Its applications include compressor blades, disks, and rings for jet engines; fuselage and space capsule components; pressure vessels; *** cases; helicopter rotor hubs; fasteners; and critical forgings where a high strength-to-weight ratio is essential.
The alloy is initially melted using advanced methods such as vacuum arc (VAR), electron beam (EB), or plasma arc hearth melting (PAM). Subsequent remelting is achieved through one or two vacuum arc steps to ensure purity and consistency.
Specifications
• ASTE B338 - Standard Heat Treatable Titanium Tube
• AMS 4928 - Forgings and Forging Stock (Annealed)
• AMS 4965 - Forgings (Solution Treated and Aged)

Heat Treatment

Annealed at 1,700-1,900°F (927 - 1,038°C) when high hardness, tensile strength, and fatigue strength are required.
The DAXUN 6-4 Grade 5 Titanium Tube can be heat treated in multiple ways to achieve specific desired properties.
1. Annealing: 1,275 - 1,400°F (691 - 760°C), ½ to 2 hours, air or furnace cooling
2. Stress Relief Annealing: 1,000 - 1,200°F (538 - 649°C), 1 to 8 hours, air or furnace cooling
3. Solution Heat Treating: 1,675 - 1,750°F (913 - 954°C), 1 hour, water quenching
4. Aging: 975 - 1,025°F (524 - 552°C), 4 to 8 hours, air cooling

Optimum Properties

Small cross-sections with rapid quenching acquire optimal properties in the solution treated and aged condition. However, larger cross-sections and/or delayed quenching may result in properties that are less than optimal.

Hardness

The typical hardness for the alloy in the annealed condition is Rockwell C 30-34, whereas in the solution treated and aged condition, it achieves a hardness of approximately Rockwell C 35-39.

Exceptional Forgeability and Formability

The DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Titanium Tube, Grade 5, is masterfully forged at a striking 1,750°F (954°C) with precision down to a final forging temperature of 1,450°F (788°C). To achieve optimal results, a reduction of at least 35% is highly recommended.

The DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Titanium Tube, Grade 5, poses challenges in forming at room temperature, even when annealed. However, rigorous forming operations like bending or stretching can be effectively performed on the annealed material at elevated temperatures up to 1,200°F (649°C) without altering its mechanical properties. For hot sizing or forming, creep forming is advantageous at temperatures between 1,000 and 1,200°F (538 to 649°C).

Superior Machinability

The DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Titanium Tube, Grade 5, demonstrates excellent machinability using techniques suited for austenitic stainless steels. Optimal results are achieved with slow speeds, high feeds, robust tool rigidity, and generous application of non-chlorinated cutting fluids.
