Ti-6Al-4V - Grade 5 Titanium Tube
- Titanium Alloy - (UNS R56400)
INTRODUCTION
- DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 Alloy Tube (UNS R56400) stands as the premier titanium alloy in the industry. This duplex alpha+beta titanium alloy ingeniously combines aluminium as an alpha stabiliser and vanadium as a beta stabiliser, offering remarkable strength even at cryogenic temperatures around 800°F (427°C). ATI Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy excels in applications like annealing, solution treatment, and ageing. It is perfect for crafting compressor blades, discs, and rings for jet engines; fuselage and space capsule components; pressure containers; *** cases; helicopter rotor hubs; fasteners; and other critical forgings demanding high strength-to-weight ratios.
- The alloy's initial melting is performed using advanced techniques such as vacuum arc (VAR), electron beam (EB), or plasma arc hearth melting (PAM). Subsequent remelting occurs in one or two vacuum arc steps, ensuring supreme quality.

FORGEABILITY/ FORMABILITY
- DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy tubes are forged at 1,750°F (954°C), with an end forging temperature of 1,450°F (788°C). For optimal results, a reduction of at least 35% is recommended.
- DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy represents an engineering marvel, challenging to form at room temperature, even post-annealing. This alloy's superb mechanical integrity allows demanding forming operations such as bending and stretching to be performed on annealed material at elevated temperatures up to 1,200°F (649°C). Additionally, hot sizing and forming via creep forming can be effectively carried out within the 1,000 to 1,200°F (538 to 649°C) range, all while maintaining its superior mechanical properties.
MACHINABILITY
- DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy showcases impressive machinability, akin to austenitic stainless steels. Leveraging slow speeds and heavy feeds, along with rigid
tooling, and substantial amounts of non-chlorinated cutting fluid, ensures optimal machining outcomes.
WELDABILITY
- DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Grade 5 Alloy Titanium Tube is highly weldable in both its annealed or solution and partially aged states, with post-weld heat treatment facilitating aging.
- During welding, precautions are essential to prevent contamination by oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Fusion welding can be effectively executed within an inert gas-filled chamber or by applying an inert gas tail shield to the molten metal and adjacent hot zone. Techniques such as spot welding, seam welding, and flash welding are feasible without necessitating a protective environment.
SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS
- DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy demands meticulous handling to avoid hydrogen contamination from incorrect pickling processes and the absorption of oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during forging, heat treatment, and brazing. Such contamination could compromise ductility, impacting notch sensitivity and forming properties.
