Duplex 2205 Round Bar is a premium duplex ferritic-austenitic stainless steel bar, meticulously engineered with 22% chromium, 3% molybdenum, and 5-6% nickel. As the most commonly utilized duplex stainless steel grade, it boasts a yield strength that is double that of standard austenitic grades. This exceptional material offers unparalleled fatigue strength and outstanding resistance to stress corrosion cracking, crevice corrosion, pitting, erosion, and general corrosion, even under the most severe conditions.
Most manufacturers recommend a maximum hot forming temperature between 2010 and 2100°F (1100 to 1150°C). If the workpiece is non-compact, edge areas may cool significantly faster, increasing the risk of cracking.
Duplex 2205 has demonstrated excellent formability across a wide range of fabrications. However, its high strength can pose certain challenges. Even if the equipment has ample power, it's essential to account for the higher spring-back due to the grade's robust strength.
Machining Duplex stainless steel bar 2205 is slightly more challenging than machining 300 series austenitic stainless steel. The process requires more cutting force, leading to quicker tool wear. Here are some key machining guidelines: A) Utilize a powerful, rigid machine with a robust tool and workpiece mount; B) Keep tool extensions short to reduce vibration; C) Ensure the tool nose radius is not longer than necessary to maintain a sharp carbide edge while providing adequate strength; D) Design the machining sequence to ensure the depth of each cut is below the work-hardened layer from the previous operation.
