Corrosion Resistance
Grade 410 stainless steel exhibits impressive resistance to dry air, fresh water, mild bases and acids, various foods, steam, and hot gases.
To achieve optimal heat and corrosion resistance, Grade 410 must undergo hardening. It delivers peak performance when maintained with a smooth finish.
Heat Resistance
This stainless steel offers excellent resistance to scaling up to approximately 650°C. However, it is typically not recommended for applications in the 400-580°C range due to a reduction in mechanical properties.
Heat Treatment
For full annealing, heat the material between 815-900°C, then allow it to cool slowly in the furnace to 600°C before air cooling.
For process annealing, heat the material between 650-760°C and then let it air cool.
Welding
410 stainless steel is readily weldable by all standard methods. Preheating to 150-260°C and post-weld annealing are recommended to minimize the risk of cracking.
