INTRODUCTION

  • At Jiangsu Daxun Alloy Co., Ltd., we pride ourselves on offering the DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 Alloy Tube (UNS R56400), a superior titanium alloy cherished for its exceptional strength and versatility. As a duplex alpha+beta titanium alloy, it incorporates aluminium as an alpha stabiliser and vanadium as a beta stabiliser, making it a high-strength option suitable for cryogenic temperatures up to 800°F (427°C). The ATI Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy is perfect for applications in annealing, solution treatment, and ageing. It is extensively used in manufacturing compressor blades, discs, and rings for jet engines, as well as fuselage and space capsule components, pressure containers, *** cases, helicopter rotor hubs, fasteners, and critical forgings that demand a high strength-to-weight ratio.
  • The alloy's production begins with initial melting through advanced methods like vacuum arc (VAR), electron beam (EB), or plasma arc hearth melting (PAM). Subsequent remelting processes include one or two steps of vacuum arc remelting to ensure top-notch quality.

SPECIFICATIONS

• ASTE B338 - Standard for treatable titanium tubes
• AMS 4928 - Specifications for annealed forgings and forging stock
• AMS 4965 - Standards for solution treated and aged forgings
• AMS 4967 - Specifications for annealed and heat treatable forgings

  • Optimal properties are achieved in the solution treated and aged condition with smaller cross sections that are rapidly quenched.
Larger section sizes or delayed quenching may result in properties that are slightly below optimum values.

HARDNESS

The typical hardness ranges from Rockwell C 30-34 in the annealed condition to Rockwell C 35-39 in the solution treated and aged condition.

FORGEABILITY/ FORMABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy tubes are forged at 1,750°F (954°C) with an end forging temperature of 1,450°F (788°C). For best results, a reduction of at least 35% is recommended to achieve optimal forgeability and formability.
  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy, renowned for its formidable durability, poses challenges during room temperature forming, even post-annealing. However, rigorous forming processes like bending or stretching can be executed on annealed material at elevated temperatures up to 1,200°F (649°C), preserving its mechanical properties. For hot sizing or forming, creep forming is advisable within the temperature range of 1,000 to 1,200°F (538 to 649°C).

MACHINABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy, offers exceptional machinability akin to austenitic stainless steels. Utilizing slow speeds, heavy feeds, and rigid
tooling paired with generous applications of non-chlorinated cutting fluid is essential to achieve precision.

WELDABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Grade 5 Alloy Titanium Tube exhibits excellent weldability in both annealed and solution-treated forms, with aging achieved through post-weld heat treatment.
  • Precautions must be taken to prevent contamination from oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Fusion welding is best performed in an inert gas-filled chamber or with an inert gas tail shield. Techniques such as spot welding, seam welding, and flash welding can be executed without a protective environment.

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy is susceptible to hydrogen contamination due to improper pickling and can absorb oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during forging, heat treatment, and brazing. Such contamination can diminish ductility, impacting notch sensitivity and forming properties.
