This alloy is engineered for applications demanding high strength and exceptional corrosion resistance, such as in chemical processing, petrochemical, and seawater equipment. The steel is highly resistant to chloride stress corrosion cracking, offers excellent thermal conductivity, and has a low coefficient of thermal expansion. Its high levels of chromium, molybdenum, and nickel provide remarkable resistance to pitting, crevice formation, and overall corrosion.
Duplex 2507 (UNS S32750) is a super duplex stainless steel featuring 25% chromium, 4% molybdenum, and 7% nickel. It is meticulously designed for demanding environments requiring robust strength and unparalleled corrosion resistance, making it perfect for chemical processing, petrochemical, and seawater equipment. This steel's remarkable resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking, coupled with high thermal conductivity and a low thermal expansion coefficient, makes it exceptionally reliable. General Corrosion
For optimal results, 2507 should be hot worked between 1875°F and 2250°F, followed by a solution anneal at a minimum of 1925°F and a rapid air or water quench.
Cold working 2507 is compatible with most standard stainless steel forming processes. However, due to its higher yield strength and lower ductility compared to austenitic steels, it may require additional forming forces, larger bending radii, and a greater margin for springback. Deep drawing, stretch forming, and similar procedures are more challenging. For deformations exceeding 10% cold deformation, a solution anneal and quench is recommended.
Post hot or cold forming, 2507 should undergo solution annealing at a minimum of 1925°F, followed by a rapid air or water quench to ensure optimal corrosion resistance. Pickling and rinsing are advised for heat-treated products.
2507 boasts excellent weldability, compatible with various welding methods including SMAW, GTAW, PAW, FCW, and SAW. To achieve the desired duplex weld structure, use 2507/P100 filler metal when welding.
