CORROSION RESISTANCE:

• 316 stainless steel boasts superior corrosion resistance compared to 304, thanks to its enhanced chromium and molybdenum content. It excels in a wide array of atmospheric conditions and corrosive environments.

HEAT TREATMENT:

• Special considerations must be made to account for its higher coefficient of thermal expansion to prevent warping and distortion during processing.

PROCESSING - HOT FORMING:

• Most producers suggest a maximum forging temperature range between 2100°F and 2300°F.
• Do not forge below 1700°F (927°C) to maintain optimal properties.
• Corrosion resistance is maximized if the forgings receive a final anneal.

PROCESSING - COLD FORMING:

• Given their exceptional toughness and ductility, 316/316L types can be readily cold worked by various methods such as roll forming, swaging, cold heading, and deep drawing.
