Type 321 stainless steel is a top-tier austenitic alloy. It shares the robust properties of Type 304, enhanced with added titanium and carbon. Type 321 offers fabricators unparalleled corrosion and oxidation resistance, along with remarkable toughness even at cryogenic extremes. Its resilience to oxidation and corrosion is exceptional. Titanium in 321 stainless steel imparts numerous advantageous traits: Prevents harmful carbide precipitation in the weld heat-affected zone (HAZ). Provides partial protection against intergranular corrosion. Mitigates embrittlement in high-risk weld areas. 321H stainless steel is ideal for applications where components are exposed to carbide precipitation temperatures (800°F-1500°F) and corrosive environments. Type 321 mirrors 304 stainless steel but boasts higher nickel content and titanium stabilization. Titanium bonds with carbon, averting chromium carbide formation at grain boundaries, thereby preserving corrosion resistance by minimizing chromium depletion near the grain borders during critical temperature exposure. This grade hardens effectively with cold working, is easily weldable, and seldom requires post-weld annealing, ensuring superior performance in diverse corrosive conditions.
