Grade 2 Titanium Rod is the workhorse among titanium alloy rods, offering the perfect balance of strength and lightweight properties, making it indispensable for weight-sensitive applications. As a commercially pure (CP) titanium alloy, it provides excellent strength-to-weight ratio, balancing superb strength and ductility. Its high impact strength and ease of welding make it versatile for various uses. This alloy boasts extreme corrosion resistance in oxidizing conditions, alkaline media, brine solutions, weakly reducing environments, and wet ***. Its resistance to seawater and saline solutions enhances its suitability for marine applications. The low density, high strength-to-weight ratio, and remarkable corrosion resistance make Grade 2 Titanium Rod an exceptional choice for a multitude of applications.

AMS 4928 - Standards for Bars, Forgings, and Forging Stock (Annealed).
AMS 4965 - Detailed Specifications for Bars and Forgings (Solution Treated and Aged).
AMS 4967 - Comprehensive Guidelines for Bars and Forgings (Annealed, Heat Treatable).
For optimal properties, rapid quenching of small sections in the solution treated and aged state is essential. Larger sections or delayed quenching may result in suboptimal properties.
In the annealed condition, typical hardness ranges from Rockwell C 30-34. In the solution and aged state, it ranges from Rockwell C 35-39.
Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy bar can be precisely machined using austenitic stainless steel methods. Employ slow machining speeds, high feeds, rigid tools, and ample amounts of non-chlorinated cutting fluids for optimal results.
Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy rod offers excellent weldability in both annealed and solution/partially aged conditions, with aging post-weld heat treatment. Prevent contamination from oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Fusion welding can be executed in an inert gas chamber or with inert gas to weld the molten metal and adjacent zones. Spot, seam, and flash welding are possible without a protective atmosphere.
Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 titanium alloy rod can be contaminated with hydrogen during improper pickling, and with oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during forging, heat treating, or brazing. This can lead to loss of ductility, negatively impacting notch sensitivity and forming characteristics.
We produce bars tailored to your specific requirements.
Expect excellent surface and straightness, perfect roundness, and the tightest diameter tolerances (up to h5 as per ISO 286-2). Available in straightened, ground, polished conditions.

Titanium should not be used with strong reducing acids, fluoride solutions, pure oxygen, or anhydrous ***.
The general corrosion rates for Grade 2 titanium in various media are detailed in Table 1. CP titanium showcases exceptional corrosion resistance across multiple environments, including:
CP titanium demonstrates excellent resistance to crevice corrosion in salt solutions, outperforming stainless steels. It shows no crevice corrosion at temperatures below 80°C (176°F) regardless of pH, even under highly chlorinated conditions.
Grade 2 titanium offers remarkable resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in hot chloride solutions and is immune to SCC in seawater.
Titanium exhibits outstanding resistance to erosion in flowing environments.
Seawater with velocities up to 130 ft/sec (40 m/sec) exhibits negligible effects on the material. Even the presence of abrasive particles, such as sand, only has a minimal impact on corrosion.
Titanium shows no significant absorption of hydrogen when exposed to seawater, even at elevated temperatures. Hydrogen absorption typically occurs only under the following conditions:
Titanium alloys exhibit remarkable immunity to all forms of microbiologically influenced corrosion. Although biofouling can occur in seawater due to titanium's non-toxicity towards marine organisms, this can be minimized by chlorination or increasing the water velocity through heat exchangers.
Unlike many other materials, titanium does not experience a reduction in fatigue performance in seawater. Both fatigue endurance limits and fatigue *** growth rates remain consistent whether tested in air or seawater.
In the galvanic series, titanium is positioned near the noble end, close to stainless steels, typically acting as the cathode when coupled with other metals. Therefore, titanium remains unaffected by galvanic corrosion but may accelerate the corrosion of the coupled metal. When paired with more noble metals, such as graphite, titanium's passivity is further enhanced.
Grade 2 Titanium Rod, unlike many other materials, does not degrade in fatigue properties when exposed to seawater. Its fatigue endurance limits and fatigue *** growth rates remain unchanged, whether tested in air or seawater.
CP2 Grade Titanium Rod is highly weldable with the necessary precautions. Due to the reactive nature of titanium, an inert gas shield must be applied to both the OD and ID of the rod. The material should be free of any grease or oil contamination.
Grade 2 Titanium Rod is typically welded using manual or automatic TIG welding, with or without filler wire. Low heat input is recommended to minimize the heat-affected zone size. Post-weld heat treatment is not usually required for Titanium Rod.
