Ti 6Al-4V (Grade 5 Titanium) is the most extensively used titanium alloy tube, representing over 50% of total titanium usage. Typically used in the annealed state, it operates at temperatures up to 400°C (750°F) and is welded with matching or ELI filler wire. Ti 6Al/4V boasts significantly higher strength than commercially pure titanium tubes, along with superior stiffness and thermal properties (excluding thermal conductivity), which is about 60% lower than CP titanium. Our premium hot-finished titanium tubes are meticulously supplied in hot-rolled or hot-extruded forms, with precise straightening and machining of both internal and external diameters. Titanium Welded Pipes
DaXun specializes in manufacturing and supplying precision-engineered titanium pipes with diameters ranging from 12.7 mm to 38.1 mm (0.47 in to 1.5 in), wall thickness from 0.4 to 1.65 mm (0.016 in to 0.065 in), and lengths up to 25000 mm. These pipes are available in Gr1, Gr2, and Gr12 titanium alloys, ideal for engineering and chemical industries. They are crafted from high-quality flat-rolled raw material using automatic tungsten inert gas (argon) welding on electric pipe welders, followed by heat treatment. INTRODUCTION

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 Alloy Tube (UNS R56400) stands as the premier choice among titanium alloys. As a duplex alpha+beta titanium alloy, it employs aluminium as an alpha stabilizer and vanadium as a beta stabilizer. This high-strength marvel is effective even at cryogenic temperatures of around 800°F (427°C). Widely revered, the alloy is integral to annealing, solution treatment, and aging processes. It finds critical applications in compressor blades, discs, and rings for jet engines; fuselage and space capsule components; pressure containers; *** cases; helicopter rotor hubs; fasteners; and vital forgings demanding an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio.
  • The alloy begins its journey with vacuum arc (VAR), electron beam (EB), or plasma arc hearth melting (PAM). Remelting occurs in one or two vacuum arc steps to ensure superior quality.

HEAT TREATMENT

  • To achieve high hardness, tensile strength, and fatigue resistance, annealing is conducted at 1,700-1,900°F (927 - 1,038°C).
  • DAXUN 6-4™, Grade 5 Alloy offers versatile heat treatment options.
  • 1. Anneal: 1,275 -1,400°F (691 - 760°C), ½ to 2 hours, air or furnace cool
  • 2. Stress Relief Anneal: 1,000 -1,200°F (538 - 649°C), 1 to 8 hours, air or furnace cool
  • 3. Solution Heat Treatment: 1,675 -1,750°F (913 - 954°C), 1 hour, water quench
  • 4. Aging Treatment: 975 -1,025°F (524 - 552°C), 4 to 8 hours - air cool
  • In the solution treated and aged condition, small cross sections showcasing optimal properties are rapidly achieved.
    However, larger section sizes or quench delays may result in properties falling short of the optimum values.

HARDNESS

Typical hardness in the annealed state is Rockwell C 30-34, while in the solution treated and aged state it reaches Rockwell C 35-39.

FORGEABILITY/FORMABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy tubes are forged at 1,750°F (954°C), with an end forging temperature of 1,450°F (788°C). To achieve optimal results, a reduction of at least 35% is recommended.
  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy is a challenging material to form at room temperature, even in its annealed state. Consequently, intense forming operations such as bending or stretching can be executed on annealed material at soaring temperatures up to 1,200°F (649°C) without compromising its mechanical integrity. For hot sizing or forming, creep forming is viable at temperatures ranging from 1,000 to 1,200°F (538 to 649°C), ensuring precision and maintaining the alloy's robust characteristics.

MACHINABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy is machineable, employing techniques similar to those used for austenitic stainless steels. Optimal results are achieved with slow speeds, heavy feeds, and rigid
    tooling, along with generous applications of non-chlorinated cutting fluid to enhance performance and longevity.

WELDABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Grade 5 Alloy Titanium Tube can be easily welded in both annealed and partially aged forms, with post-weld ageing.
  • is conducted during the post-weld heat treatment. It's crucial to avoid contamination from oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Fusion welding is best performed in an inert gas-filled chamber or with an inert gas tail shield over the molten metal and surrounding hot zone. Spot welding, seam welding, and flash welding are all feasible without a protective environment.

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy may encounter hydrogen contamination due to improper pickling, as well as absorption of oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during forging, heat treatment, brazing, etc. Such contamination can diminish ductility, negatively affecting notch sensitivity and forming capabilities.

2. Stress Relief Annealing: Relieve internal stresses effectively at 1,000 - 1,200°F (538 - 649°C) for 1 to 8 hours, followed by air or furnace cooling.
3. Solution Heat Treating: Optimize material properties with solution heat treating at 1,675 - 1,750°F (913 - 954°C) for 1 hour, followed by a water quench.
4. Aging: Enhance strength with aging at 975 - 1,025°F (524 - 552°C) for 4 to 8 hours, and then air cool.

Optimum Properties

Small cross sections achieve rapid quenching when solution treated and aged, ensuring optimal performance. Larger cross-sections and delayed quenching may lead to suboptimal properties.
