How Is Duplex 2507 Stainless Steel Made?
- The production of Duplex 2507 stainless steel mirrors that of other high-alloy steels. The process kicks off in an electric arc furnace, where scrap steel is melted and alloyed. Once molten, the steel is transferred to an AOD (argon oxygen decarburization) converter. Here, critical steps such as decarburization, sulfur refinement, and gas elimination are meticulously carried out to achieve the desired composition.
- During the AOD process, nitrogen is typically incorporated. The steel then progresses to the ladle furnace for fine-tuning of its inclusions, ensuring optimal quality.
- Post these initial stages, the molten steel is cast into either solitary ingots or continuously produced blooms. These solidified forms are then reheated and subjected to forging or rolling to attain the specified thickness. A solution annealing heat treatment followed by water quenching ensures a homogeneous internal structure, vital for the steel's integrity.
- Fabrication of Duplex 2507 pipes can be executed via hot or cold forming techniques.
