AMS 4928 - Bars, Forgings, and Forging Stock (Annealed)
AMS 4965 - Bars, Forgings (Solution Treated and Aged)
AMS 4967 - Bars, Forgings (Annealed, Heat Treatable)
In the solution-treated and aged condition, rapid quenching of small sections ensures optimal properties. Larger sections or delayed quenching may yield less-than-optimal results.
The typical hardness in the annealed condition is Rockwell C 30-34, increasing to Rockwell C 35-39 in the solution-treated and aged condition.
Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy bars can be machined using techniques designed for austenitic stainless steel, incorporating slow machining speeds, high feeds, rigid tools, and copious amounts of non-chlorinated cutting fluids.
Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy rods are easily weldable in both annealed and solution-treated, partially aged conditions. Aging can be achieved during post-weld heat treatment. Care must be taken to avoid contamination with oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Fusion welding should be performed in an inert gas-filled chamber or using inert gas to shield the molten metal and heated zones, using a tail shield. Spot, seam, and flash welding are feasible without a protective atmosphere.
The Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 titanium alloy rod may face contamination risks such as hydrogen from improper pickling and oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during forging, heat treatment, brazing, etc. Such contamination can lead to a loss of ductility, adversely impacting notch sensitivity and forming characteristics.
We manufacture bars tailored to your specific requirements.
Our titanium bars boast excellent surface and straightness, perfect roundness, and the tightest diameter tolerances (up to h5 as per ISO 286-2). Available in straightened, ground, and polished conditions.

Titanium should not be exposed to strong reducing acids, fluoride solutions, pure oxygen, or anhydrous ***.
The corrosion rates for Grade 2 titanium across various media are detailed in Table 1. CP titanium is noted for its robust corrosion resistance in a wide range of environments, including:
CP titanium boasts superior resistance to crevice corrosion in salt solutions compared to stainless steels. It remains unaffected by crevice corrosion at temperatures below 80°C (176°F), regardless of pH, even in heavily chlorinated environments.
Grade 2 titanium excels in resisting stress corrosion (SCC) cracking in hot chloride solutions and remains immune to SCC in seawater.
Titanium exhibits exceptional resistance to erosion in flowing
seawater at velocities up to 130 ft/sec (40 m/sec), with minimal impact on the material. The presence of abrasive particles, such as sand, has a negligible effect on corrosion.
Titanium does not significantly absorb hydrogen from seawater, even at elevated temperatures. Hydrogen absorption occurs only under specific conditions:
Titanium alloys exhibit extraordinary resistance to microbiologically influenced corrosion. Despite their non-toxicity to marine organisms, biofouling can occur in seawater. This can be effectively controlled through chlorination or increased water velocity in heat exchangers.
Titanium, unlike many other materials, does not show a decrease in fatigue performance in the presence of seawater. Both fatigue endurance limits and fatigue *** growth rates remain consistent whether tested in air or seawater.
In the galvanic series, titanium sits near the noble end like stainless steels and acts as the cathode when paired with other metals. As a result, titanium remains unaffected by galvanic corrosion but can accelerate the corrosion of the other metal. Pairing titanium with more noble metals, such as graphite, enhances titanium's passivity.
Unlike many other materials, Grade 2 Titanium Rod maintains its fatigue properties in the presence of seawater. Fatigue endurance limits and fatigue *** growth rates are consistent whether tested in air or seawater.
CP2 Grade Titanium Rod exhibits excellent weldability, provided necessary precautions are taken. Due to titanium's reactivity, an inert gas shield must be placed on both the OD and ID of the rod. The material must be free of any grease or oil contamination before welding.
Grade 2 Titanium Rod is typically welded using manual or automatic TIG welding, with or without filler wire. To minimize the size of the heat-affected zone, low heat input should be used. Titanium Rod is not generally post-weld heat treated.
