Daxun Alloy, a leading titanium alloy tube manufacturer and supplier in China, provides premium Grade 5 titanium pipes globally, gaining accolades from numerous projects.

Ti 6Al-4V (Grade 5 Titanium) is the most widely used of all titanium alloy tubes, representing over 50% of total titanium usage. Typically used in the annealed state, it can operate up to 400°C (750°F). Ti 6Al/4V is welded with matching or ELI filler wire and has significantly higher strength than commercial pure titanium tubes. It also offers better stiffness and thermal properties (excluding thermal conductivity), although its thermal conductivity is about 60% lower than CP titanium. Among its advantages are its heat treatability, which achieves ideal strength and performance, excellent formability, low density, and outstanding corrosion resistance.

Grade 5 Titanium Alloy stands as the pinnacle of engineering materials, offering an impeccable fusion of strength, corrosion resistance, weldability, and machinability. Its unparalleled qualities make it indispensable in critical sectors such as military aviation, ***ering, precision-guided systems, armor manufacturing, naval equipment, and military vacuum technology. The closely related 6-4ELI variant is also a staple in surgical implants, providing enhanced ductility and toughness in cold working conditions, specifically up to 400°C. This alloy boasts exceptional specific strength and is typically supplied in its annealed state, allowing easy heat treatment to further amplify its strength for diverse applications. Ti 6Al-4V Titanium Seamless Tubes are renowned for their versatility, maintaining ideal properties within a temperature range of -210°C to 400°C. Grade 5 Titanium Alloy Tubes, the most commercialized among titanium alloys, combine high strength and toughness with excellent welding and processing characteristics, making them a general-purpose solution for various engineering needs.

Ti-6Al-4V- Grade 5 Titanium Tube

  • Titanium Alloy - (UNS R56400)

INTRODUCTION

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 Alloy Tube (UNS R56400) is the most sought-after titanium alloy. This duplex alpha+beta titanium alloy incorporates aluminum as an alpha stabilizer and vanadium as a beta stabilizer. Recognized for its high strength, the alloy can be employed at cryogenic temperatures up to 800°F (427°C). The ATI Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy is extensively used in annealing, solution treatment, and aging processes. Its applications include compressor blades, discs, and rings for jet engines, as well as fuselage and space capsule components, pressure containers, *** cases, helicopter rotor hubs, fasteners, and other critical forgings requiring a high strength-to-weight ratio.
  • The alloy undergoes initial melting through vacuum arc (VAR), electron beam (EB), or plasma arc hearth melting (PAM). Remelting is performed in one or two vacuum arc steps to ensure purity and consistency.

SPECIFICATIONS

• ASTM B338 - Standard for heat treatable titanium tubes
• AMS 4928 - Specifications for forgings and forging stock (annealed)
• AMS 4965 - Specifications for forgings (solution treated and aged)
• AMS 4967 - Specifications for forgings (annealed, heat treatable)

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES

  • Melting Range: 2,800-3,000°F (1,538 - 1,649°C)
  • Density: 0.160 lbs/cu. in.; 4.47 gm/cc
  • Beta Transus Temperature: 1830°F (± 25°); 999°C (± 14°)

HEAT TREATMENT

  • Annealing at 1,700-1,900°F (927 - 1,038°C) is performed to achieve high hardness, tensile, and fatigue strength.
  • DAXUN 6-4™, Grade 5 Alloy can be heat treated using various methods.
  • 1. Anneal: 1,275 -1,400°F (691 - 760°C) for ½ to 2 hours, followed by air or furnace cooling.
  • 2. Stress Relief Anneal: 1,000 -1,200°F (538 - 649°C) for 1 to 8 hours, followed by air or furnace cooling.
  • 3. Solution Heat Treatment: 1,675 -1,750°F (913 - 954°C) for 1 hour, followed by water quenching.
  • 4. Aging Treatment: 975 -1,025°F (524 - 552°C) for 4 to 8 hours, followed by air cooling.
  • Optimal properties are achieved in the solution treated and aged condition, particularly in rapidly quenched small cross sections.
Larger section sizes and/or quench delays may result in properties that are lower than the optimum values.

HARDNESS

Typical hardness in the annealed condition is Rockwell C 30-34, and about Rockwell C 35-39 in the solution and aged condition.

FORGEABILITY/FORMABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy tubes are forged at 1,750°F (954°C) with an end forging temperature of 1,450°F (788°C). For optimal results, a reduction of at least 35% is recommended.
  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy is renowned for its difficulty to form at room temperature, even after annealing. Consequently, severe forming operations such as bending or stretching can be performed on annealed material at elevated temperatures up to 1,200°F (649°C) without compromising its mechanical properties. For hot sizing or forming, creep forming is effective at temperatures between 1,000 to 1,200°F (538 to 649°C).

MACHINABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy can be machined using techniques similar to those for austenitic stainless steels. This involves operating at slow speeds, employing heavy feeds, and using rigid
tooling, along with copious amounts of non-chlorinated cutting fluid.

WELDABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Grade 5 Alloy Titanium Tube exhibits excellent weldability in both the annealed and solution-treated, partially aged conditions, with aging occurring during the post-weld heat treatment.
  • Care must be taken to prevent contamination by oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Fusion welding can be conducted in an inert gas-filled chamber or with an inert gas tail shield applied to the molten metal and adjacent hot zone. Various welding methods such as spot welding, seam welding, and flash welding can be performed without the need for a protective environment.

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy is susceptible to hydrogen contamination due to improper pickling, as well as oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon absorption during forging, heat treatment, and brazing. Such contamination can degrade ductility, affecting notch sensitivity and forming characteristics.

Ti-6Al-4V Titanium Pipe - Grade 5 Titanium Tube

Titanium Alloy - (UNS R56400)
Introduction
DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Titanium Tube, Grade 5 (UNS R56400) stands as the most popular titanium alloy.
