AMS 4928 - Bars, Forgings, and Forging Stock (Annealed)
AMS 4965 - Bars, Forgings (Solution treated and aged)
AMS 4967 - Bars, Forgings (Annealed, Heat Treatable)
In the solution treated and aged condition, rapid quenching of smaller sections ensures optimal properties. Larger sections and/or delays in quenching may result in slightly reduced properties.
Typical hardness levels are Rockwell C 30-34 in the annealed condition, and Rockwell C 35-39 in the solution treated and aged condition.
Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy bar can be machined using techniques suitable for austenitic stainless steel, employing slow speeds, high feeds, rigid tools, and large quantities of non-chlorinated cutting fluids.
The Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy rod, known for its exceptional weldability, can be easily welded whether in the annealed state or in the solution and partially aged condition. To ensure optimal results and maintain the alloy's integrity, it is crucial to maintain a contamination-free environment, free from oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Fusion welding should be carried out within an inert gas-filled chamber or with inert gas shielding the molten metal and adjacent heated zones, accompanied by a tail shield. Additionally, spot, seam, and flash welding can be conducted without the necessity of a protective atmosphere.
During handling and processing, Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 titanium alloy rods can risk contamination by hydrogen in improper pickling processes and by oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during forging, heat treating, brazing, and related activities. Such contamination may lead to a decrease in ductility, potentially impacting notch sensitivity and forming characteristics adversely.
We manufacture bars tailored to your specific requirements.
Our bars boast excellent surface quality, unmatched straightness, perfect roundness, and the tightest diameter tolerances (per ISO 286-2 up to h5). They are available in straightened, ground, and polished conditions.

Note: Titanium should not be used with strong reducing acids, fluoride solutions, pure oxygen, or anhydrous ***.
The general corrosion rates for Grade 2 titanium across various media are detailed in Table 1. CP titanium demonstrates robust corrosion resistance in diverse environments, including:
CP titanium offers excellent resistance to crevice corrosion in salt solutions, outperforming stainless steels. It remains unaffected by crevice corrosion at temperatures below 80 °C (176°F), regardless of pH, even in highly chlorinated conditions.
Grade 2 titanium exhibits superior resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in hot chloride solutions and is immune to SCC in seawater.
Titanium's exceptional resistance to erosion in flowing
seawater at velocities up to 130 ft/sec (40 m/sec) is remarkable. Even with abrasive particles like sand, the impact on corrosion is minimal.
Titanium shows no significant hydrogen absorption in seawater, even at elevated temperatures. Normally, hydrogen absorption occurs only when the following conditions are met:
Titanium alloys have showcased an exceptional resistance to all forms of microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC). Notably, they exhibit no toxicity towards marine organisms, which can lead to biofouling in seawater environments. However, this can be efficiently mitigated through chlorination or by increasing the water velocity within heat exchangers.
Titanium stands out from many other materials by not demonstrating a reduction in fatigue performance when exposed to seawater. The fatigue endurance limits and *** growth rates remain consistent, whether tested in air or seawater conditions.
In the galvanic series, titanium is positioned towards the noble end, close to stainless steels, and generally acts as the cathode when paired with other metals. Hence, titanium remains unaffected by galvanic corrosion but can accelerate the corrosion of the other coupled metal. Pairing titanium with more noble metals, like graphite, further enhances its passivity.
Grade 2 Titanium Rod, unlike many other materials, maintains its fatigue properties even in seawater. Both the fatigue endurance limits and *** growth rates are consistent, whether evaluated in air or seawater.
CP2 Grade Titanium Rod is highly weldable, provided the necessary precautions are observed. Due to titanium's reactivity, an inert gas shield is required on both the OD and ID of the rod. Additionally, the material must be free from grease or oil contaminants.
Typically, Grade 2 Titanium Rods are welded using manual or automatic TIG welding, with or without filler wire. It's crucial to use low heat input to minimize the heat-affected zone's size. Post-weld heat treatment is generally not performed on Titanium Rods.
