HEAT RESISTANCE

  • Similar to other duplex stainless steels, Duplex 2205 exhibits excellent oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures.
  • Nonetheless, it is prone to embrittlement when exposed to temperatures above 572°F (300°C) for even short durations; thus, its use is not advised above this temperature.

WELDING CHARACTERISTICS

  • Duplex 2205 possesses commendable weldability.
  • However, welding without filler metal is generally discouraged due to the potential for excessive ferrite formation.

HEAT TREATMENT

  • The annealing temperature range is between 1868 to 2012°F (1020 to 1100°C).
  • Duplex 2205 cannot be hardened by heat treatment, though it work-hardens effectively.
  • Special attention is required to account for its higher coefficient of thermal expansion to prevent warping and distortion.

PROCESSING - HOT FORMING

Most manufacturers recommend a maximum hot forming temperature between 2010 and 2100°F (1100 to 1150°C). If the workpiece lacks uniformity, the edges may cool more rapidly than the bulk, raising the risk of cracking in cooler areas.

PROCESSING - COLD FORMING
