Unrivaled CORROSION RESISTANCE Alloy 2205 shines with superb resistance to chloride-induced pitting and stress corrosion cracking.
Superior ELEVATED TEMPERATURE RESISTANCE According to the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, the upper-temperature limit is set at 600°F (315°C). Prolonged exposure above this threshold can lead to embrittlement.
Outstanding MECHANICAL PROPERTIES Alloy 2205 offers more than double the strength of conventional austenitic stainless steels in the annealed condition. Available in cold-worked condition, it boasts a yield strength exceeding 160 ksi and retains excellent toughness at temperatures down to -50°F (-10°C).
Versatile WORKABILITY Alloy 2205 is amenable to cold forming, though its high work-hardening rate requires intermediate anneals. Post-annealing is advised following hot or cold forming to attain optimal stress corrosion resistance.
Our state-of-the-art forming capabilities are second to none, featuring the latest in extrusion and cold working technologies for tube and pipe manufacturing. We pride ourselves on housing one of the world's largest pilger mills and a unique hydroforming process for precision fittings.

The Duplex 2205 stainless steel pipe, an exceptional grade among duplex ferritic-austenitic stainless steels, consists of 22% chromium, 3% molybdenum, and 5-6% nickel. Distinguished as the most widely utilized duplex stainless steel, it boasts a yield strength that is double that of standard austenitic grades. Furthermore, it excels in fatigue strength and stands out in its remarkable resistance to stress corrosion cracking, crevice, pitting, erosion, and general corrosion, making it ideal for severe conditions.
Most manufacturers recommend a maximum hot forming temperature between 2010 and 2100°F (1100 to 1150°C). If the workpiece lacks uniformity, the edges may cool more rapidly than the bulk, raising the risk of cracking in cooler areas.
Duplex 2205 Stainless Steel Tube showcases exceptional formability across diverse manufacturing processes. Despite its high strength posing potential challenges, it's crucial to consider the increased springback associated with this grade, even when utilizing powerful equipment.
Duplex 2205 presents a higher machining difficulty compared to 300 series austenitic stainless steels. Elevated cutting forces are necessary, which accelerates tool wear. For optimal results, adhere to these guidelines: A) Utilize a robust, rigid machine with secure tool and workpiece mounts; B) Minimize tool extensions to reduce vibration; C) Maintain a short tool nose radius to ensure the carbide retains sharpness while maintaining strength; D) Plan the machining sequence to ensure the depth of cut stays below the work-hardened layer from previous operations.
