Grade 2 Titanium Welded Tube: Our expertly crafted Grade 2 Titanium Welded Tubes are available with diameters ranging from 6.0mm to 1219mm and wall thicknesses from 0.3mm to 30mm, depending on the diameter. These tubes can be produced in lengths up to an impressive 25000mm, starting from high-quality Gr1 titanium tubes. Utilizing state-of-the-art electric welding machines, our tubes undergo automatic tungsten inert gas (argon) welding, followed by heat treatment on the mill line. Each tube is subjected to rigorous mechanical tests, precise geometric measurements, 100% ultrasonic and eddy current testing, and either pneumatic or hydrostatic testing. We package the finished titanium welded tubes meticulously according to customer specifications. Our advanced manufacturing technology and comprehensive inspection and testing equipment ensure that our thin-wall welded tubes meet the exacting standards of ASTM B 338 and ASME SB 338.

CP 2 grade titanium tubes are renowned for their low density and high strength-to-weight ratio. This makes them ideal for applications demanding weight reduction without compromising overall strength. They boast excellent cold formability and ductility and can be welded using conventional TIG and MIG processes, with inert gas shielding to prevent embrittlement in the weld zone.

Crystal Structure

At ambient temperature, ASTM B338 Grade 2 titanium tube features an alpha (hexagonal close-packed) crystal structure, akin to commercially pure titanium grades 1 and 3. Around 885°C (1625°F), it transitions to a beta (body-centered cubic) structure. This transformation temperature can vary based on impurities or alloying elements. These additions create distinct alpha and beta transformation temperature zones, with both alpha and beta forms coexisting between these ranges. For Grade 2 titanium, typical alpha and beta transformation temperatures are 890°C (1635°F) and 913°C (1675°F), respectively.

Grade 2 Titanium Seamless Pipe Manufacturing Process

Daxun's ASTM B338 Grade 2 titanium seamless tubes are crafted from hollow blanks through a hot extrusion or oblique rolling and piercing process, followed by multiple cold rolling steps. Throughout manufacturing, titanium seamless tubes maintain continuous perimeters. The production involves: sponge titanium vacuum arc melting, ingot blanking to obtain hollow blanks, cleaning, cutting, hot extrusion or oblique rolling and piercing, degreasing, drying, cutting, online annealing, straightening, pickling, multiple cold rolling, degreasing, drying, vacuum annealing, straightening, cutting, pickling, final inspection, marking (DAXUN), and packaging.

Grade 2 Titanium Welded Pipe Manufacturing Process

Daxun's ASTM B338 Grade 2 titanium welded pipes are manufactured from annealed flat-rolled steel plates or strips using the TIG (automatic arc welding) process. The main production stages include: titanium plate uncoiling, shearing, butt welding, cleaning, pipe forming, TIG welding, eddy current testing, pre-sizing, annealing, precision reducing and sizing, straightening, eddy current testing, caliper marking, cutting, ultrasonic testing, hydrostatic testing, final inspection, and packaging. Welded pipes undergo at least one stress relief heat treatment post-forming and welding. Daxun does not use any filler materials during the welding process.

Weight Reduction

CP 2 grade titanium tubes are characterized by low density and a high strength-to-weight ratio, making them ideal for applications demanding weight reduction without compromising strength. Cold formable with excellent ductility, these tubes can be welded using conventional TIG and MIG processes, requiring inert gas shielding to prevent weld zone embrittlement.

Crystal Structure

At room temperature, ASTM B338 Grade 2 titanium tube features an alpha (hexagonal close-packed) crystal structure, akin to commercially pure titanium grades 1 and 3. Around 885°C (1625°F), it transitions to a beta (body-centered cubic) structure, with the transformation temperature influenced by impurities or alloy additions. Alloying elements divide the equilibrium transformation into two zones: the alpha transformation zone below which the alloy is all alpha, and the beta transformation zone above which it is all beta. In between, both alpha and beta forms coexist. Typical transformation temperatures for Grade 2 titanium are 890°C (1635°F) for alpha and 913°C (1675°F) for beta.

Grade 2 Titanium Welded Pipe Manufacturing Process

Daxun's ASTM B338 Grade 2 titanium welded pipe is produced from annealed flat-rolled steel plate or strip using the automatic arc welding (TIG) process. Key production steps include: titanium plate uncoiling, shearing, butt welding, cleaning, pipe forming, TIG welding, eddy current testing, pre-sizing, annealing, precision reducing and sizing, straightening, eddy current testing, caliper marking, cutting, ultrasonic testing, hydrostatic testing, final inspection, and packaging. Post-forming and welding, the welded pipes undergo stress relief heat treatment. Daxun does not use any filler materials during welding.

Heat Treatment

1. Annealing: 1,275 -1,400°F; (691 - 760°C), for a duration of ½ to 2 hours, followed by air or furnace cooling.
2. Stress Relief Annealing: 1,000 -1,200°F; (538 - 649°C), for 1 to 8 hours, followed by air or furnace cooling.
3. Solution Heat Treating: 1,675 -1,750°F; (913 - 954°C) for 1 hour, followed by a water quench.
4. Aging: 975 -1,025°F; (524 - 552°C) for 4 to 8 hours, followed by air cooling.

Optimum Properties

To achieve optimum properties, small cross sections should undergo rapid quenching in the solution treated and aged condition. Larger cross-sections or delayed quenching may result in suboptimal properties.

Hardness

The typical hardness achieved in the annealed condition is Rockwell C 30-34, reaching approximately Rockwell C 35-39 in the solution and aged condition.

Forgeability/Formability

DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Titanium Tube, Grade 5 is forged at a starting temperature of 1,750°F (954°C) with a final forging temperature of 1,450°F (788°C). For exceptional results, a reduction of at least 35% is recommended.

Severe forming operations, such as bending or stretching, should be conducted on the annealed material at temperatures up to 1,200°F (649°C) to maintain its mechanical properties. Creep forming is an effective method for hot sizing or forming at temperatures ranging from 1,000 to 1,200°F (538 to 649°C).
