Grade 2 Titanium Rod is the workhorse among titanium alloy rods, offering a remarkable strength-to-density ratio for weight-sensitive applications. As a CP (commercially pure) titanium alloy, it presents the optimal balance of strength and weight. With excellent strength and ductility, high impact strength, and superior weldability, it is an ideal choice. It provides exceptional corrosion resistance in oxidizing conditions, alkaline media, brine solutions, weakly reducing environments, and wet ***. Additionally, it is highly resistant to seawater and saline solutions. The low density, high strength-to-weight ratio, and corrosion resistance of Grade 2 Titanium Rod make it a versatile option for various applications.

AMS 4928 - Bars, Forgings, and Forging Stock (Annealed)
AMS 4965 - Bars, Forgings (Solution treated and aged)
AMS 4967 - Bars, Forgings (Annealed, Heat Treatable)
In the solution-treated and aged condition, rapid quenching of smaller sections achieves peak properties. However, larger sections and/or delayed quenching might not yield optimal properties.
Typical hardness is Rockwell C 30-34 in the annealed condition and Rockwell C 35-39 in the solution-treated and aged condition.
The Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy bar is machinable using austenitic stainless steel machining techniques, which involve slow speeds, high feeds, rigid tools, and ample non-chlorinated cutting fluids for optimal performance.
The Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy rod exhibits excellent weldability in both annealed and solution plus partially aged conditions, with aging achieved through post-weld heat treatment. To prevent contamination by oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen, it is essential to employ precautions. Fusion welding is best conducted in an inert gas-filled chamber or with inert gas to shield the molten metal and adjacent heated zones, complemented by a tail shield. Spot, seam, and flash welding can proceed without a protective atmosphere.
The Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 titanium alloy rod is prone to contamination from hydrogen during improper pickling, and oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during forging, heat treating, or brazing processes. Such contamination can reduce ductility, negatively impacting notch sensitivity and forming characteristics.
We customize bar production to meet your specific requirements.
Our bars feature exceptional surface quality and straightness, impeccable roundness, and the most stringent diameter tolerances (ISO 286-2 up to h5). Available in straightened, ground, and polished finishes.

Titanium should not be used with strong reducing acids, fluoride solutions, pure oxygen, or anhydrous ***.
The general corrosion rates for Grade 2 titanium in various media are presented in Table 1. CP titanium boasts admirable corrosion resistance in numerous environments, including:
CP titanium offers superior resistance to crevice corrosion in salt solutions compared to stainless steels. CP titanium does not display crevice corrosion at temperatures below 80 °C (176°F), regardless of pH, even under highly chlorinated conditions.
Grade 2 titanium exhibits outstanding resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in hot chloride solutions and is immune to SCC in seawater.
Titanium demonstrates exceptional resistance to erosion in flowing conditions.
Our materials demonstrate impressive resilience in seawater, withstanding velocities up to 130 ft/sec (40 m/sec) without significant impact. Even in the presence of abrasive particles like sand, corrosion remains minimal, showcasing their durability in harsh environments.
Titanium exhibits remarkable resistance to hydrogen absorption when exposed to seawater, even at elevated temperatures. Hydrogen absorption in titanium generally occurs only if three specific conditions are met:
Titanium alloys exhibit unparalleled immunity to microbiologically influenced corrosion. While titanium alloys do not inhibit marine organisms, leading to potential biofouling in seawater, this can be mitigated through chlorination or increased water flow through heat exchangers.
Titanium stands out by maintaining fatigue performance in seawater. Fatigue endurance limits and *** growth rates are consistent whether tested in air or seawater, unlike many other materials.
In the galvanic series, titanium is positioned near the noble end, close to stainless steels, typically acting as the cathode when coupled with other metals. This means titanium itself remains unaffected while potentially accelerating corrosion in the coupled metal. Coupling with more noble metals like graphite further enhances titanium's passivity.
Grade 2 Titanium Rod offers exceptional fatigue properties, with no degradation in the presence of seawater. Both fatigue endurance limits and *** growth rates are consistent whether tested in air or seawater.
Our CP2 Grade Titanium Rod is highly weldable, provided necessary precautions are observed. Due to titanium's reactivity, an inert gas shield is essential on both the outer and inner diameters of the rod. It is also crucial to ensure the material is free of grease or oil contamination.
Grade 2 Titanium Rod is typically welded using manual or automatic TIG welding, with or without filler wire. Employing low heat input helps minimize the heat-affected zone size. Post-weld heat treatment is generally not required for Titanium Rod.
