Type 201 Stainless Steel is an innovative austenitic chromium-nickel-manganese alloy designed to reduce nickel use. As a cost-effective substitute for Cr-Ni stainless steels like 301 and 304, Type 201 replaces nickel with manganese and nitrogen. It cannot be hardened through heat treatment but achieves high tensile strength via cold working. Initially non-magnetic in its annealed state, it becomes magnetic after cold working. This mid-range stainless steel is ideal for appliances, cookers, sinks, kitchen utensils, catering equipment, automotive parts, fixtures, carriages, and window trims. Its robust structural strength is suited for these uses, though it's not ideal for outdoor structural applications due to susceptibility to pitting and crevice corrosion from seawater.
