Ti-6Al4V Grade 5 Titanium Alloy Tube is the most commercially available titanium alloy. It boasts high strength and toughness, offering excellent welding and processing characteristics:

  • High Strength Titanium Alloy
  • Heat Treatable
  • Excellent Ductility
  • Superior Machinability
  • Exceptional Weldability

We stock and sell a wide range of Grade 5 Titanium Alloy Tubes, including Seamless, Forged Seamless, and Welded Tubes.

As a premier manufacturer and supplier in China, Daxun Alloy delivers top-tier Grade 5 titanium pipes globally, earning acclaim across numerous projects.

Ti 6Al-4V (Grade 5 Titanium) is the most widely used titanium alloy, comprising over 50% of total titanium usage. Typically annealed, it operates up to 400°C (750°F) and is welded with matching or ELI filler wire. Ti 6Al/4V offers significantly higher strength compared to commercially pure titanium, along with improved stiffness and thermal properties (excluding thermal conductivity). Its thermal conductivity is approximately 60% lower than CP titanium. Heat treatment enhances its strength and performance, offering strong formability, low density, and superior corrosion resistance.

This grade perfectly combines strength, corrosion resistance, weldability, and machinability, making it ideal for military aircraft, aviation, rocket parts, precision-guided components, armor parts, ship equipment, military vacuum equipment, and more. Its close variant, 6-4 ELI, is also employed in surgical implants. Used in applications up to 400°C, it improves ductility and toughness in cold working conditions and boasts excellent specific strength. Provided in the annealed state, it is easily heat-treated to enhance strength for various applications. As a general-purpose titanium alloy, Ti 6Al-4V titanium seamless tube offers a broad spectrum of ideal properties at temperatures ranging from -210°C to 400°C, being the most commercialized of all titanium alloys.

Ti-6Al-4V - Grade 5 Titanium Tube

  • Titanium Alloy - (UNS R56400)

INTRODUCTION

  • The DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 Alloy Tube (UNS R56400) is renowned as the most popular titanium alloy. This duplex alpha+beta titanium alloy utilizes aluminum and vanadium to stabilize its structure, enabling impressive strength at cryogenic temperatures reaching up to 800°F (427°C). The ATI Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy is ideally suited for annealing, solution treatment, and aging processes. Its high strength-to-weight ratio makes it indispensable in numerous high-performance applications, including compressor blades, discs, and rings for jet engines; fuselage and space capsule components; pressure containers; *** cases; helicopter rotor hubs; fasteners; and essential forgings.
  • Initially, the alloy undergoes melting via vacuum arc (VAR), electron beam (EB), or plasma arc hearth melting (PAM). Remelting is accomplished in one or two vacuum arc steps, ensuring high-purity and consistent material properties.

SPECIFICATIONS

• ASTE B338 - Standards for heat-treatable titanium tubes
• AMS 4928 - Specifications for forgings and forging stock (annealed)
• AMS 4965 - Standards for forgings (solution treated and aged)
• AMS 4967 - Specifications for forgings (annealed and heat-treatable)

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES

  • Melting Range: 2,800-3,000°F (1,538 - 1,649°C)
  • Density: 0.160 lbs/cu. in.; 4.47 gm/cc
  • Beta Transus Temperature: 1830°F (± 25°); 999°C (± 14°)

HEAT TREATMENT

  • Annealing at 1,700-1,900°F (927 - 1,038°C) is employed where high hardness, tensile, and fatigue strength are critical.
  • The DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 Alloy can be heat-treated through several methods:
  • 1. Anneal: 1,275 - 1,400°F (691 - 760°C) for ½ to 2 hours, followed by air or furnace cooling
  • 2. Stress Relief Anneal: 1,000 - 1,200°F (538 - 649°C) for 1 to 8 hours, followed by air or furnace cooling
  • 3. Solution Heat Treatment: 1,675 - 1,750°F (913 - 954°C) for 1 hour, followed by a water quench
  • 4. Aging Treatment: 975 - 1,025°F (524 - 552°C) for 4 to 8 hours, followed by air cooling
  • In the solution treated and aged condition, the alloy achieves superior properties in small cross sections that are rapidly quenched. However, larger sections and/or delays in quenching may result in lower properties than the optimum values.
For larger section sizes and/or delays in quenching, properties may be lower than optimal values.

HARDNESS

Typical hardness in the annealed condition is Rockwell C 30-34, while in the solution and aged condition, it reaches around Rockwell C 35-39.

FORGEABILITY/ FORMABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy tubes are forged at 1,750°F (954°C) with an end forging temperature of 1,450°F (788°C). For optimal results, a reduction of at least 35% is recommended.
  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy is recognized for its challenging formability at room temperature. However, even when annealed, it can endure rigorous forming operations like bending or stretching at elevated temperatures up to 1,200°F (649°C) without compromising its mechanical integrity. Creep forming is adeptly employed for hot sizing or forming within the temperature range of 1,000 to 1,200°F (538 to 649°C).

MACHINABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy showcases excellent machinability characteristics that align with those of austenitic stainless steels. This requires slow speeds, heavy feeds, and rigid tooling.
Additionally, ensure the use of large volumes of non-chlorinated cutting fluid for optimal results.

WELDABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Grade 5 Alloy Titanium Tube offers exemplary weldability in both the annealed and solution-treated forms, with aging performed during the post-weld heat treatment.
  • To prevent contamination by oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen, meticulous precautions are necessary. Fusion welding can be conducted in an inert gas-filled chamber or using an inert gas tail shield over the molten metal and adjacent hot zone. Spot welding, seam welding, and flash welding can all be performed without a protective environment.

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy is susceptible to hydrogen contamination from improper pickling and can also absorb oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during various processes such as forging, heat treatment, and brazing. This contamination potentially reduces ductility and impacts notch sensitivity and forming properties.

Ti-6Al-4V Titanium Pipe - Grade 5 Titanium Tube

Titanium Alloy - (UNS R56400)
Introduction
DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Titanium Tube, Grade 5 (UNS R56400), remains the most sought-after titanium alloy due to its duplex alpha+beta composition, utilizing aluminum as the alpha stabilizer and vanadium as the beta stabilizer.
