UNMATCHED CORROSION RESISTANCE Alloy 2205 offers extraordinary resistance to chloride-induced pitting and stress corrosion cracking.
SUPERIOR ELEVATED TEMPERATURE RESISTANCE According to the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, the upper-temperature limit is 600°F (315°C). Prolonged exposure above this temperature leads to embrittlement.
EXCEPTIONAL MECHANICAL PROPERTIES Alloy 2205 boasts more than twice the strength of traditional austenitic stainless steels in the annealed state. It can also be supplied cold-worked, with yield strength surpassing 160 ksi. It retains good toughness down to -50°F (-10°C).
VERSATILE WORKABILITY Alloy 2205 is amenable to cold forming but has a high work-hardening rate, potentially necessitating intermediate anneals. Post-forming annealing is ideal for achieving optimal stress corrosion resistance.
Our forming capabilities are unparalleled, featuring state-of-the-art extrusion and cold working assets for tube and pipe manufacturing. We take pride in housing one of the world's largest pilger mills and a unique hydroforming process for precision fittings.

Duplex 2205 stainless steel pipe is a superior duplex ferritic-austenitic stainless steel composed of 22% chromium, 3% molybdenum, and 5-6% nickel. This highly sought-after grade boasts twice the yield strength of standard austenitic grades, along with exceptional fatigue strength. Its robust design ensures remarkable resistance to stress corrosion cracking, crevice, pitting, erosion, and general corrosion even under severe conditions.
Manufacturers recommend a maximum hot forming temperature between 2010 and 2100°F (1100 and 1150°C). Uneven cooling can lead to cracking, so maintaining consistent temperatures is crucial.
The Duplex 2205 Stainless Steel Tube offers exceptional formability across numerous manufacturing processes. However, its high strength can be challenging. Even with powerful equipment, the increased springback inherent to this grade must be meticulously considered.
Machining Duplex 2205 is somewhat more demanding than machining 300 series austenitic stainless steels, necessitating higher cutting forces and resulting in quicker tool wear. Below are essential machining guidelines: A) Employ a powerful, rigid machine with robust tool and workpiece mounts; B) Maintain short tool extensions to reduce vibration; C) Limit the tool nose radius to ensure a sharp edge on the carbide, while preserving adequate strength; D) Strategically plan the machining sequence to keep the depth of cut beneath the work-hardened layer from the prior operation.
