CORROSION RESISTANCE Alloy 2205 showcases exceptional resistance to chloride-induced pitting and stress corrosion cracking, making it ideal for challenging environments.
ELEVATED TEMPERATURE RESISTANCE According to the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Alloy 2205 is limited to an upper temperature of 600°F (315°C). Prolonged exposure above this limit may cause embrittlement.
MECHANICAL PROPERTIES Alloy 2205 offers more than double the strength of conventional austenitic stainless steels when annealed. It can also be supplied in a cold-worked condition with yield strength surpassing 160 ksi, maintaining excellent toughness down to -50°F (-10°C).
WORKABILITY Alloy 2205 is amenable to cold forming but exhibits a high work-hardening rate, necessitating intermediate anneals. Post hot or cold forming, annealing is recommended to achieve optimal stress corrosion resistance.

Here are essential machining guidelines: A) Utilize a robust, rigid machine with solid tool and workpiece mounts; B) Maintain short tool extensions to reduce vibration; C) Ensure the tool nose radius is no larger than necessary for a sharp edge with adequate strength; D) Design the machining sequence to keep the depth of cut below the work-hardened layer from the previous operation.
