A Global Leader in Stainless Steel Pipe Fabrication Services Like most non-stainless steels, martensitic 410 stainless steel pipe can be toughened by a 'quench and temper' heat treatment. Containing at least 11.5% chromium, it resists corrosion, achieving peak performance when tempered and polished after hardening. Known as a general-purpose grade, 410 stainless steel pipe is typically hardened while remaining machinable and ideal for applications requiring moderate heat, corrosion resistance, and high strength. Its primary feature is high hardness, although some properties are compromised. Poor weldability and a final heat treatment are necessary for optimal performance. Compared to austenitic stainless steels, martensitic variants like 410 have lower corrosion resistance and reduced ductility at freezing temperatures. Over-tempering limits their useful operating range. The 410 stainless steel pipe, a widely used 12% chromium martensitic pipe, can be heat treated for various mechanical properties, offering high strength and hardness alongside good corrosion resistance. Ductile and forgeable, it is magnetic in all conditions but is not recommended in environments with severe corrosion.

• Corrosion Resistance
  410 stainless steel is resistant to dry air, fresh water, mild bases and acids, foods, steam, and hot gases.
  To achieve maximum heat and corrosion resistance, 410 must be hardened. It performs best when smooth.
  Heat Resistance
  410 stainless steel exhibits good resistance to scaling at temperatures up to about 650°C. However, it is not generally recommended for use between 400 and 580°C due to reduced mechanical properties.
  Heat Treatment
  Fully anneal at 815-900°C, followed by a slow furnace cool to 600°C, and then air cool.
  Process anneal at 650-760°C and air cool.
  Welding
  410 stainless steel can be easily welded by all standard methods but requires preheating to 150-260°C and post-weld annealing to minimize the risk of cracking.
