A Global Leader in Stainless Steel Pipe Fabrication Services Like most non-stainless steels, the martensitic 410 stainless steel pipe can be toughened by a 'quench and temper' heat treatment. It contains sufficient chromium (at least 11.5%) to resist corrosion. Its corrosion resistance is maximized when tempered and polished after hardening. 410 stainless steel pipe, a general-purpose grade, is usually hardened but remains machinable, making it ideal for applications requiring moderate heat and corrosion resistance coupled with high strength. The primary characteristic of martensitic stainless steels is their high hardness, although some other properties may be compromised. Poor weldability must be addressed during fabrication, and a final heat treatment is typically required. Martensitic stainless steels have lower corrosion resistance compared to ordinary austenitic stainless steels. They also lose ductility at sub-freezing temperatures and lose strength at temperatures above freezing due to over-tempering, which constrains their operational temperature range. The 410 stainless steel pipe is a widely used 12% chromium martensitic stainless steel pipe that can be heat treated to achieve various mechanical properties. It offers high strength and hardness while maintaining good corrosion resistance. 410 Stainless Steel Tube is both ductile and forgeable and remains magnetic in all conditions. Therefore, it is not recommended for use in environments prone to severe corrosion.

Quick Response

  • Corrosion Resistance
    410 stainless steel is resistant to dry air, fresh water, mild bases and acids, foods, steam, and hot gases.
    For optimal heat and corrosion resistance, 410 stainless steel must be hardened. Best performance is achieved when smooth.
    Heat Resistance
    410 stainless steel exhibits good resistance to scaling up to about 650°C. However, it is not generally recommended for use at temperatures between 400 and 580°C as mechanical properties are reduced.
    Heat Treatment
    To fully anneal, heat to 815-900°C, then slow furnace cool to 600°C, followed by air cooling.
    Process anneal by heating to 650-760°C and air cooling.
    Welding
    410 stainless steel is easily welded by all standard methods, but requires preheating to 150-260°C and post-weld annealing to reduce cracking likelihood.
