Grade 2 Titanium Rod is the workhorse among titanium alloy rods, with a remarkable strength-to-density ratio ideal for weight-sensitive applications. As a CP (commercially pure) titanium alloy, it ensures the best balance between strength and weight, offering superior strength and ductility. Its high impact strength and weldability make it extremely versatile. Additionally, it boasts exceptional corrosion resistance in oxidizing conditions, alkaline media, brine solutions, mildly reducing environments, and wet ***. Its resilience extends to seawater and saline solutions, making it a superior choice for varied applications.

AMS 4928 - Bars, Forgings, and Forging Stock (Annealed)
AMS 4965 - Bars, Forgings (Solution Treated and Aged)
AMS 4967 - Bars, Forgings (Annealed, Heat Treatable)
In the solution treated and aged condition, rapid quenching of small sections yields optimal properties. Larger section sizes and/or delayed quenching may result in less than optimal properties.
Typical hardness in the annealed condition is Rockwell C 30-34, and about Rockwell C 35-39 in the solution-treated and aged condition.
Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 Alloy Bar can be precision-machined using austenitic stainless steel methods. Employ slow speeds, high feeds, rigid tools, and ample non-chlorinated cutting fluids for best results.
Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 Alloy Rod offers excellent weldability, whether annealed or in the solution and partially aged condition, with aging attainable during post-weld heat treatment. Preventative measures against contamination by oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen are essential. Fusion welding can be done in an inert gas chamber or with inert gas shields for the molten metal and adjacent zones. Spot, seam, and flash welding are possible without a protective atmosphere.
Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 Titanium Alloy Rod can be susceptible to hydrogen contamination from improper pickling, and to oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during various processes such as forging or brazing. Such contamination could result in reduced ductility, impacting notch sensitivity and forming characteristics negatively.
We produce bars tailored to your specific requirements.
Our bars boast excellent surface quality and straightness, perfect roundness, and the tightest diameter tolerances (ISO 286-2 up to h5). Available in straightened, ground, and polished conditions.

Titanium should be avoided in conjunction with strong reducing acids, fluoride solutions, pure oxygen, or anhydrous ***.
General corrosion rates for Grade 2 titanium across various media are presented in Table 1. CP titanium demonstrates excellent corrosion resistance in a wide range of environments, including:
CP titanium shows impressive resistance to crevice corrosion in salt solutions when compared to stainless steels. CP titanium will not undergo crevice corrosion at temperatures below 80°C (176°F), regardless of pH, even in super chlorinated conditions.
Grade 2 titanium exhibits unparalleled resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in hot chloride solutions and remains completely immune to SCC in seawater.
Titanium demonstrates outstanding resistance to erosion, even in rapidly flowing environments.
Seawater with velocities of up to 130 ft/sec (40 m/sec) shows negligible impact on the material. The presence of abrasive particles like sand has minimal effect on corrosion.
Titanium does not significantly absorb hydrogen when exposed to seawater, even at elevated temperatures. Hydrogen absorption typically occurs only under the following three stringent conditions:
Titanium alloys exhibit remarkable immunity to all forms of microbiologically influenced corrosion. Despite their non-toxicity towards marine life, biofouling can occur in seawater but can be controlled through chlorination or by increasing water velocity in heat exchangers.
Unlike many other materials, titanium maintains its fatigue performance in the presence of seawater. Fatigue endurance limits and *** growth rates are consistent whether tested in air or seawater.
In the galvanic series, titanium is positioned near the noble end close to stainless steels, typically acting as the cathode when coupled with other metals. Titanium remains unaffected by galvanic corrosion but can accelerate the corrosion of the other metal. Pairing titanium with more noble metals like graphite further enhances its passivity.
Grade 2 Titanium Rod shows no degradation in fatigue properties when exposed to seawater. Fatigue endurance limits and *** growth rates remain the same whether tested in air or seawater.
CP2 Grade Titanium Rod is highly weldable when proper precautions are observed. Due to titanium's reactivity, an inert gas shield must protect both the outer and inner surfaces of the rod, and the material must be free of grease or oil contamination.
Grade 2 Titanium Rod is typically welded using manual or automatic TIG welding, with or without filler wire. Low heat input should be used to minimize the heat-affected zone. Post-weld heat treatment is usually not required for Titanium Rod.
