A Global Leader in Stainless Steel Sheet Fabrication Services
The 430 (1.4016) Stainless Steel Sheet is a ferritic stainless steel distinguished by its high chromium content, ranging from 12 to 180. This substantial chromium presence ensures superior ductility and formability. Additionally, it offers robust resistance to strong acids and excellent oxidation resistance due to its high chromium content. The corrosion resistance is further enhanced when the steel is polished or ground. Post-heating, the metal is annealed to eliminate brittleness at room temperature. Surface Description of Stainless Steel Plate
Finish Designation | Method and degree of finish |
No.1 | After hot rolling, heat treatment, pickling or other equivalent treatment is applied. |
No.2D | Annealing and pickling are performed after cold rolling; material is soft with surface of silver-white luster; used for general applications and deep drawing. |
No.2B | After 2D finish, skin pass rolling is performed to obtain a more suitable luster; the surface becomes very exquisite; used for general applications. |
No.3 | Intermediate 100-120 grit finish; used for applications in which surface polishing is performed after shaping. |
No.4 | General 150-180 grit finish; used for restaurants and kitchen equipment and tools. |
#240 | 240 grit finish; used when a finer finish than No. 4 is required; typically for restaurants and kitchen equipment and tools. |
#320 | 320 grit finish polished product. |
HL | This finish is performed by continuous linear polishing using an abrasive of appropriate grain size; mainly used for architectural applications. |
BA | Achieved by performing bright annealing after cold rolling and then skin pass rolling to obtain even greater reflectance; provides excellent corrosion resistance; used for household appliances, kitchen equipment, and automobiles. |
8K | Through multiple grinding, it achieves very high brightness and smoothness, like a mirror. |

Leading Stainless Steel Sheet Suppliers in China
General properties:
- Ferritic, pure chromium, non-hardenable grade 430 stainless steel offers excellent formability and corrosion resistance, making it ideal for appliance parts and car trim. It also withstands *** corrosion, which is beneficial for certain chemical applications.
- For use in automatic screw machines, grade 430F is a more machinable variant offered in bar form. Grade 434, containing molybdenum, shares similar beneficial characteristics with Grade 430, with enhanced corrosion resistance due to the added molybdenum.
- ASTM A240/A240M details the specific qualities of Grade 430 for flat rolled products like plate, sheet, and coil. Similar, though not always identical, attributes are found in other specifications for items such as bars and forgings. For bars, ASTM A582 defines the Grade 430F characteristics, ensuring clarity and compliance for various applications.
APPLICATIONS:
Typical applications for Grade 430 include:
- Dishwasher linings
- Refrigerator cabinet panels
- Automotive trims
- Lashing wire
- Element supports
- Stove trim rings
- Fasteners
- Chimney liners
Common uses for Grade 430F include:
- Repetition machined components
SPECIFICATIONS:
- UNS: ASTM/ASTE S43000
- DIN: 1.4016
CORROSION RESISTANCE:
- Grade 430 stainless steel offers excellent resistance to a broad range of corrosive environments, including nitric and some organic acids. When polished or ground to a high finish, its corrosion resistance is maximized. Its pitting and crevice corrosion resistance is on par with Grade 304. In addition, Grade 430 has exceptional resistance to stress corrosion cracking, a common trait of all ferritic grades.
- Grade 430F, the non-free machining variant, shows markedly lower resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, similar to other high sulfur free machining grades.
HEAT RESISTANCE:
- Grade 430 can resist oxidation up to 870°C in intermittent service and up to 815°C in continuous service. However, prolonged heating in the 400-600°C range can make it brittle at room temperature, an effect that can be mitigated by annealing.
HEAT TREATMENT:
- Solution Annealing - Heat to 815-845°C, holding the temperature for ½ hour per 25mm of thickness. Slowly cool in the furnace to 600°C, then air cool rapidly. Slow cooling from 540-400°C may cause embrittlement.
- Sub-Critical Annealing - Heat to 760-815°C and then either air cool or water quench.
- This grade cannot be hardened by thermal treatment.
WELDING:
- Pre-heating to 150-200°C is advisable if welding is necessary.
- Post-weld annealing at 790-815°C can relieve embrittlement in the weld metal and heat-affected zones.
- Grain refinement will not occur.
MACHINING:
- Grade 430 is easier to machine than standard austenitic grades like 304.
- However, it still tends to gall and pick up on cutting tools.
- Lightly drawn bars are easier to machine compared to those in the annealed state.
- Grade 430F, the free machining variant, is significantly easier to machine.
FABRICATION:
- The lower work hardening rate of Grade 430 makes bending and forming easier compared to Grade 304.
- However, lower ductility restricts extremely severe operations.
- Severe bends should be performed perpendicular to the rolling direction.
- Severe cold heading of 430 wire is possible.
