Titanium Tube Manufacturing Types: Titanium Welded Tube
Tubular products made from strip are roll-formed and fusion welded along a longitudinal seam. The welding processes employed by Daxun do not use any filler metals during the welding process, ensuring a pure weld.

Titanium Welded & Drawn Tubing
Our tubular products are welded and then redrawn to a precise final size. This method, known as welded and drawn, is ideal for producing tubes with heavy wall diameters that cannot be welded directly to size. This process offers significant cost savings compared to seamless tubes. All Daxun welded and drawn tubes undergo bright annealing.

Titanium Seamless Tubing
Seamless tubular products are drawn from tube hollows, created either by piercing a billet or through a hot extrusion process. Seamless tubing is ideal for applications requiring very heavy diameter-to-wall ratios and provides excellent outside dimensional tolerances.

Fabrication

Titanium Grade 2 can be effectively cold-formed using standard methods and machined with ease. However, it is crucial to maintain sharp tools and use ample coolant. Similar to machining austenitic stainless steels, the cutting should be deep and continuous with slow feeds and speeds.

Stock Availability

Daxun Alloys maintains a robust inventory of CP 2 Grade Titanium Seamless and Welded Pipes in various sizes to meet diverse customer needs.

Weight Reduction

CP 2 grade titanium tubes boast low density and a superior strength-to-weight ratio, making them ideal for applications requiring weight reduction without compromising on overall strength. They are easily cold formable, possess excellent ductility, and can be welded using standard TIG and MIG processes, though inert gas shielding is necessary to prevent embrittlement in the weld zone.

Crystal Structure

At room temperature, ASTM B338 Grade 2 titanium tubes exhibit an alpha (hexagonal close-packed) crystal structure, akin to commercially pure titanium grades 1 and 3. At around 885°C [1625°F], this structure transitions to a beta (body-centered cubic) form. The transition temperature can vary based on impurities or alloying elements, which also influence the alpha and beta transformation zones. Typically, Grade 2 titanium's alpha and beta transformation temperatures are 890°C (1635°F) and 913°C (1675°F), respectively.

Grade 2 Titanium Seamless Pipe Manufacturing Process

Daxun's ASTM B338 Grade 2 titanium seamless tubes are meticulously crafted from hollow blanks using either hot extrusion or oblique rolling and piercing processes, followed by several cold rolling stages. The continuous perimeter is maintained at all manufacturing stages. Key steps include: sponge titanium vacuum arc melting, ingot blanking to obtain hollow blanks, cleaning, cutting, and feeding, hot extrusion, or oblique rolling and piercing, degreasing, drying, cutting, online annealing and straightening, pickling, multiple cold rolling, degreasing, drying, vacuum annealing, straightening, cutting, pickling, final inspection, marking (DAXUN), and packaging.

Grade 2 Titanium Welded Pipe Manufacturing Process

Daxun's ASTM B338 Grade 2 titanium welded pipe is fabricated from annealed flat-rolled steel plate or steel strip through an advanced automatic arc welding (TIG) process. The main production stages include: titanium plate uncoiling, shearing, butt welding, cleaning, pipe forming, TIG welding, eddy current testing, pre-sizing, annealing, precision reducing and sizing, straightening, another round of eddy current testing, caliper marking, cutting, ultrasonic testing, hydrostatic testing, final inspection, and packaging. Welded pipes undergo at least one stress relief heat treatment post-forming and welding. Daxun refrains from using any filler materials during the welding process to ensure purity and integrity.

Ti-6Al-4V Titanium Pipe - Grade 5 Titanium Tube

Titanium Alloy - (UNS R56400)
Introduction
DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Titanium Tube, Grade 5 (UNS R56400), is the most sought-after titanium alloy, representing a superior duplex alpha+beta titanium alloy stabilized by aluminum (alpha stabilizer) and vanadium (beta stabilizer). This robust alloy performs exceptionally well at low temperatures, approximately 800°F (427°C). ATI Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy excels in processes such as annealing, solution treating, and aging. It finds applications in creating compressor blades, disks, and rings for jet engines; fuselage and space capsule components; pressure vessels; *** cases; helicopter rotor hubs; fasteners; and critical forgings, all where a high strength-to-weight ratio is paramount.
The alloy commences its life through vacuum arc (VAR), electron beam (EB), or plasma arc hearth melting (PAM) techniques. The remelting process involves one or two additional vacuum arc steps to ensure the alloy's purity and consistency.
Specifications

4. Aging: 975 -1,025°F; (524 - 552°C), for 4 to 8 hours, then air cooled.

Optimum Properties

Achieving optimal properties requires rapid quenching of small cross-sections in the solution treated and aged condition. Larger cross-sections or delayed quenching may lead to suboptimal characteristics.

Hardness

Typical hardness in the annealed condition is Rockwell C 30-34, while the solution and aged condition typically results in Rockwell C 35-39.

Forgeability/Formability

The DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Titanium Tube, Grade 5, renowned for its exceptional strength and versatility, undergoes forging at a precise temperature of 1,750°F (954°C), with a final touch at 1,450°F (788°C). For optimal results, we recommend a reduction of at least 35%.

DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Titanium Tube, Grade 5, presents challenges in forming at room temperature, even when annealed. However, it excels in severe forming operations like bending or stretching when heated up to 1,200°F (649°C), maintaining its robust mechanical properties. For hot sizing or forming, creep forming can be employed at temperatures between 1,000°F (538°C) and 1,200°F (649°C).

Machinability

DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Titanium Tube, Grade 5, can be efficiently machined using techniques similar to those for austenitic stainless steels. Achieve the best results with slow speeds, high feeds, rigid tooling, and generous amounts of non-chlorinated cutting fluids.
