Type 201 stainless steel is an austenitic chromium-nickel-manganese alloy crafted to conserve nickel. It serves as a cost-effective substitute to standard Cr-Ni stainless steels like 301 and 304, with nickel replaced by manganese and nitrogen. Although it cannot be hardened through heat treatment, it achieves high tensile strength via cold working. Initially non-magnetic in the annealed state, Type 201 becomes magnetic after cold working.
