Type 321 is a titanium-stabilized chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steel with corrosion resistance comparable to grades 304/304L. It is effectively utilized in temperature ranges between 800˚F and 1500˚F. The addition of titanium stabilizes the material against chromium carbide precipitation, resulting in the formation of titanium carbides. Type 321 offers superior intergranular corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance up to 1500˚F, and enhanced creep and stress rupture characteristics over 304/304L. This grade also remains strong at low temperatures and is non-magnetic when annealed.
