A Global Leader in Stainless Steel Pipe Fabrication Services Martensitic 410 stainless steel pipe, like most non-stainless steels, can be toughened through a 'quench and temper' heat treatment. With a chromium content of at least 11.5%, it boasts superior corrosion resistance, especially when tempered and polished post-hardening. This general-purpose grade of stainless steel pipe is usually hardened yet remains machinable, making it ideal for applications that demand moderate heat and corrosion resistance combined with high strength. Despite some sacrifices in properties, the hallmark of martensitic stainless steels is their high hardness. Fabrication challenges such as poor weldability must be addressed, often necessitating a final heat treatment. While martensitic stainless steels exhibit lower corrosion resistance compared to austenitic counterparts, they can be heat treated to produce varied mechanical properties. However, they lose ductility below freezing temperatures and strength above freezing due to over-tempering, limiting their operational temperature range. The widely used 12% chromium 410 stainless steel pipe offers high strength, hardness, and good corrosion resistance. This magnetic and forgeable tube is not recommended in environments prone to severe corrosion.

• Corrosion Resistance
  410 stainless steel resists dry air, freshwater, mild bases and acids, food, steam, and hot gases.
  For maximum heat and corrosion resistance, 410 must be hardened. Optimal performance is achieved when the surface is smooth.
  Heat Resistance
  Exhibits good resistance to scaling up to approximately 650°C. However, it is generally not recommended for use at temperatures between 400 and 580°C as mechanical properties are reduced.
  Heat Treatment
  Fully anneal at 815-900°C, slow furnace cool to 600°C, then air cool.
  Process anneal at 650-760°C followed by air cooling.
  Welding
  Easily welded by all standard methods. Requires preheating to 150-260°C and post-weld annealing to minimize the risk of cracking.
