COMPREHENSIVE SPECIFICATIONS
AMS 4928 - Bars, Forgings, and Forging Stock (Annealed)
AMS 4965 - Bars, Forgings (Solution Treated and Aged)
AMS 4967 - Bars, Forgings (Annealed, Heat Treatable)
ADVANCED HEAT TREATMENT
- For applications requiring high hardness, tensile strength, and fatigue strength, annealing can be performed at 1,700-1,900°F (927 - 1,038°C).
The versatile DAXUN 6-4™ Grade 5 alloy can undergo multiple heat treatment processes. - 1. Anneal: 1,275 -1,400°F; (691 - 760°C) for ½ to 2 hours, followed by air or furnace cooling.
- 2. Stress Relief Anneal: 1,000 -1,200°F; (538 - 649°C) for 1 to 8 hours, followed by air or furnace cooling.
- 3. Solution Heat Treat: 1,675 -1,750°F; (913 - 954°C) for 1 hour, followed by water quenching.
- 4. Aging: 975 -1,025°F; (524 - 552°C) for 4 to 8 hours, followed by air cooling.
In the solution-treated and aged condition, rapidly quenching small sections yields optimal properties. However, larger sections and/or delayed quenching may result in less than optimal properties.
OPTIMAL HARDNESS
Typically, the hardness in the annealed condition ranges from Rockwell C 30-34, and it increases to about Rockwell C 35-39 in the solution treated and aged condition.
Superior Forgeability/Formability
- Our Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy bar is forged at 1,750°F (954°C) with a final forging temperature of 1,450°F (788°C). A minimum reduction of 35% is recommended to achieve optimal properties.
- Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy bar is known for its challenge in forming at room temperature, even when annealed. However, significant forming operations such as bending or stretching can be successfully conducted on annealed material at elevated temperatures up to 1,200°F (649°C) without compromising its mechanical properties. Hot sizing or forming can be seamlessly achieved through creep forming within the temperature range of 1,000 - 1,200°F (538 - 649°C).
Machinability
Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy bar can be efficiently machined using methods applied to austenitic stainless steel. This involves slow machining speeds, high feeds, and the utilization of rigid tools, alongside substantial use of non-chlorinated cutting fluids to ensure precision and performance.
Weldability
Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy rod exhibits excellent weldability in both the annealed condition and the solution and partially aged condition, with aging executed during post-weld heat treatment. To prevent contamination from oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen, precautions must be followed meticulously. Fusion welding can be performed within an inert gas-filled chamber or with inert gas shielding the molten metal and nearby heated areas, utilizing a tail shield for added protection. Additionally, spot, seam, and flash welding can be performed without a protective atmosphere.
Special Considerations
Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 titanium alloy rod is susceptible to contamination from hydrogen during improper pickling, and from oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during processes like forging, heat treating, and brazing. Such contamination can lead to a reduction in ductility, negatively impacting notch sensitivity and forming properties.

Grade 2 Titanium Rod
Corrosion Resistance
Avoid using titanium with strong reducing acids, fluoride solutions, pure oxygen, or anhydrous ***.
General Corrosion
Table 1 outlines the general corrosion rates for Grade 2 titanium in various media. CP titanium demonstrates excellent corrosion resistance in diverse environments, including:
- Seawater and Brines
- Inorganic Salts
- Moist *** Gas
- Alkaline Solutions
- Oxidizing Acids
- Organics and Organic Acids
- Sulfur Compounds
Crevice Corrosion
CP titanium shows excellent resistance to crevice corrosion in salt solutions compared to stainless steels. It will not exhibit crevice corrosion below 80 °C (176°F), regardless of the pH, even under super chlorinated conditions.
Stress Corrosion Cracking
Grade 2 titanium exhibits outstanding resistance to stress corrosion (SCC) cracking in hot chloride solutions and remains immune to SCC in seawater.
Erosion Corrosion
Titanium showcases exceptional resistance to erosion in flowing conditions.
Experience the unparalleled durability of our Aerospace Grade1 Titanium Rods, even in seawater velocities reaching up to 130 ft/sec (40 m/sec). Remarkably resilient, this material shows negligible effects from both the water and abrasive particles, like sand.
Hydrogen Embrittlement
Our Grade1 Titanium Rods exhibit exceptional resistance to hydrogen absorption, even when exposed to seawater at elevated temperatures. Hydrogen absorption only occurs under specific conditions:
- When the pH level is < 3 or > 12
- When the temperature exceeds 176°F (80°C)
- When there is a mechanism for hydrogen generation, such as a galvanic couple or impressed current.
Bio-Corrosion
Titanium alloys from Jiangsu Daxun Alloy Co., Ltd. proudly exhibit unmatched immunity to all forms of microbiologically influenced corrosion. Despite their lack of toxicity towards marine organisms, which can lead to biofouling in seawater, this can be effectively minimized through chlorination or increased water velocity through heat exchangers.
Corrosion Fatigue
Unlike many conventional materials, our Grade1 Titanium Rods maintain their fatigue performance in seawater. Fatigue endurance limits and *** growth rates remain consistent, whether tested in air or seawater.
Galvanic Corrosion
Positioned towards the noble end of the galvanic series near stainless steels, our titanium acts as the cathode when paired with other metals. This characteristic ensures titanium remains unaffected by galvanic corrosion while potentially accelerating corrosion in the other metal. Coupling with noble metals like graphite further enhances titanium's passivity.
Fatigue Properties
Grade 2 Titanium Rod showcases extraordinary resistance to fatigue degradation in seawater. Both fatigue endurance limits and *** growth rates are consistent when tested in air or seawater.
Weldability
Our CP2 Grade Titanium Rods are highly weldable with the right precautions. Given titanium's reactivity, an inert gas shield must be applied to both the OD and ID of the rod. Furthermore, the rods must be free from any grease or oil contamination.
Grade 2 Titanium Rods are typically welded using manual or automatic TIG welding, with or without filler wire. To minimize the heat-affected zone, low heat input is recommended. Post-weld heat treatment is generally not necessary.
