Type 201 stainless steel is an innovative austenitic chromium-nickel-manganese alloy engineered to economize on nickel. It serves as a cost-effective alternative to traditional Cr-Ni stainless steels like 301 and 304, replacing nickel with manganese and nitrogen. While it cannot be hardened through heat treatment, it attains high tensile strength through cold working. In its annealed state, Type 201 is non-magnetic but develops magnetism after cold working. This mid-range stainless steel is widely used in appliances, cookware, sinks, kitchen utensils, and catering equipment. Additionally, it finds applications in automotive parts, fixtures, carriages, and window trims due to its notable structural strength.
