AMS 4928 - For Bars, Forgings, and Forging Stock (Annealed)
AMS 4965 - For Bars, Forgings (Solution Treated and Aged)
AMS 4967 - For Bars, Forgings (Annealed, Heat Treatable)
For optimum properties, rapid quenching of smaller sections is required in the solution treated and aged condition. Larger sections or delayed quenching may yield suboptimal properties.
In the annealed state, typical hardness ranges between Rockwell C 30-34, while in the solution treated and aged state, it ranges from Rockwell C 35-39.
Machining the Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy bar is akin to handling austenitic stainless steel, necessitating slow speeds, high feeds, rigid tools, and copious amounts of non-chlorinated cutting fluids for optimal results.
In its annealed or solution and partially aged state, the Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy rod boasts excellent weldability. The aging process can be completed during post-weld heat treatment, with precautions to avoid contamination with oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Fusion welding is best executed in an inert gas-filled chamber or using inert gas for the molten metal and adjacent heated zones, complemented by a tail shield. Spot, seam, and flash welding are also feasible without protective atmosphere aid.
When handling the Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 titanium alloy rod, it is imperative to avoid contamination from hydrogen during improper pickling, and from oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during processes like forging, heat treating, and brazing. Such contamination can diminish ductility, negatively impacting notch sensitivity and forming characteristics.
We meticulously produce bars tailored to your specifications.
Our bars are characterized by an impeccable surface finish, superior straightness, perfect roundness, and the tightest diameter tolerances (as per ISO 286-2 up to h5). They are available in straightened, ground, and polished conditions.

Titanium is unsuitable for environments with strong reducing acids, fluoride solutions, pure oxygen, or anhydrous ***.
Table 1 showcases the general corrosion rates of Grade 2 titanium in various media. CP titanium is well known for its resistance to diverse environments, including:
CP titanium offers excellent resistance to crevice corrosion in salt solutions compared to stainless steels and remains unaffected at temperatures below 80 °C (176°F) regardless of pH, even in super chlorinated conditions.
Grade 2 titanium exhibits exceptional resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in hot chloride solutions and remains impervious to SCC in seawater, making it an ideal choice for challenging marine environments.
Titanium demonstrates outstanding resistance to erosion in flowing environments, ensuring long-lasting durability.
In seawater velocities of up to 130 ft/sec (40 m/sec), Grade 2 titanium shows negligible degradation. Even the presence of abrasive particles like sand has minimal impact on its anti-corrosive properties.
Titanium resists significant hydrogen absorption in seawater, even at elevated temperatures. Hydrogen uptake occurs only under specific conditions:
Titanium alloys showcase unique immunity to microbiologically influenced corrosion. Despite the absence of toxicity towards marine organisms, biofouling can occur, which can be mitigated through chlorination or by increasing water velocity in heat exchangers.
Titanium retains its fatigue performance in seawater, unlike many materials. Fatigue endurance limits and *** growth rates are consistent whether tested in air or seawater.
In the galvanic series, titanium ranks near the noble end, close to stainless steels, usually acting as the cathode in metal pairings. This prevents titanium from galvanic corrosion, though it can accelerate the corrosion of the other metal. Pairing titanium with more noble metals like graphite further enhances its passivity.
Grade 2 Titanium Rod maintains its fatigue properties even in seawater, with consistent fatigue endurance limits and *** growth rates whether tested in air or underwater.
CP2 Grade Titanium Rods are highly weldable, provided precautions are taken. An inert gas shield is required on both the OD and ID of the rod due to titanium's reactivity. Ensure the material is free from grease or oil contamination.
Grade 2 Titanium Rods are typically welded using manual or automatic TIG welding with or without filler wire. To minimize the heat affected zone, low heat input is crucial. Post-weld heat treatment is typically unnecessary for Titanium Rods.
