Duplex Steel S32205 Rods are highly prized across multiple industries for their outstanding versatility and performance. This duplex stainless steel merges the strengths of austenitic and ferritic stainless steels, resulting in superb mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, and cost efficiency. Composition and Property: Duplex Steel S32205 consists of approximately 22% chromium, 5-6% nickel, 3% molybdenum, and high levels of nitrogen, imparting excellent resistance to corrosion and remarkable strength. Its dual-phase microstructure of austenite and ferrite surpasses the mechanical properties of traditional austenitic or ferritic stainless steels. Corrosion Resistance: One of the hallmark features of S32205 rods is their exceptional resistance to various forms of corrosion. They are particularly resistant to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride-rich environments, making them ideal for use in corrosive settings such as chemical processing, marine environments, and the offshore oil and gas industry.

Duplex 2205 Round Bar is a duplex ferritic-austenitic stainless steel bar containing 22% chromium, 3% molybdenum, and 5-6% nickel. This alloy stands out as the most widely utilized duplex stainless steel grade, offering a yield strength that is twice that of standard austenitic grades. It boasts remarkable fatigue strength and shows exceptional resistance to stress corrosion cracking, crevice, pitting, erosion, and general corrosion even under the harshest conditions.
Most producers recommend a maximum hot forming temperature between 2010 and 2100°F (1100 to 1150°C). If the workpiece is not compact, the edges may cool significantly faster than the bulk, increasing the risk of cracking in cooler regions.
Duplex 2205 exhibits impressive formability across various fabrication processes. However, the high strength inherent to Duplex 2205 can present challenges. Even when equipment has ample power, it's essential to account for the increased spring-back due to the grade's robust strength.
Machining Duplex stainless steel bar 2205 is slightly more challenging compared to 300 series austenitic stainless steel, requiring greater cutting forces which result in faster tool wear. Follow these expert machining guidelines: A) Utilize a powerful, rigid machine with robust tool and workpiece mounts; B) Maintain short tool extensions to reduce vibration; C) Avoid unnecessary tool nose radius lengths to keep the carbide edge sharp while ensuring strength; D) Design the machining sequence to ensure the depth of cut remains beneath the work-hardened layer from previous operations.
