UNMATCHED CORROSION RESISTANCE Alloy 2205 offers exceptional resistance to chloride-induced pitting and stress corrosion cracking, ensuring reliability.
RESILIENCE AT ELEVATED TEMPERATURES The ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code sets a maximum temperature limit of 600°F (315°C) for Alloy 2205. Prolonged exposure to higher temperatures can lead to embrittlement.
SUPERIOR MECHANICAL PROPERTIES Alloy 2205 boasts more than twice the strength of conventional austenitic stainless steels when annealed. In the cold-worked state, its yield strength can exceed 160 ksi, maintaining impressive toughness at temperatures as low as -50°F (-10°C).
EXCELLENT WORKABILITY Alloy 2205 can be proficiently cold-formed. Due to its high work-hardening rate, intermediate annealing may be necessary. Post hot or cold forming, annealing is advised to achieve optimal stress corrosion resistance.
Our forming capabilities are truly unparalleled, showcasing state-of-the-art extrusion and cold working assets that set the gold standard in tube and pipe manufacturing. We proudly operate one of the world's largest pilger mills and employ a unique hydroforming process, ensuring unmatched precision in fittings.

Duplex 2205 stainless steel pipe is a high-performance duplex ferritic-austenitic stainless steel, meticulously crafted with 22% chromium, 3% molybdenum, and 5-6% nickel content. Renowned as the most commonly utilized duplex stainless steel grade, it boasts a yield strength that is twice that of regular austenitic grades. Distinguished by its superior fatigue strength, Duplex 2205 excels in resisting stress corrosion cracking, crevice corrosion, pitting, erosion, and general corrosion, even under the most severe conditions.
Manufacturers typically recommend a maximum hot forming temperature between 2010 and 2100°F (1100 and 1150°C). If the workpiece isn't compact, cooler edges might risk cracking compared to the bulk.
The Duplex 2205 Stainless Steel Tube is renowned for its excellent formability across various manufacturing processes. This high-strength material can pose certain challenges, such as increased springback, which must be considered even when using powerful equipment.
Machining Duplex 2205 can be somewhat more challenging compared to the 300 series austenitic stainless steels. The higher cutting forces required lead to quicker tool wear. Here are some essential machining guidelines: A) Utilize a powerful, rigid machine with robust tool and workpiece mounts; B) Minimize tool extensions to reduce vibration; C) Avoid excessive tool nose radius to maintain a sharp carbide edge without compromising strength; D) Plan the machining sequence to ensure the cutting depth remains beneath the work-hardened layer from the previous operation.
