317L Stainless Steel Pipe is a molybdenum-containing low-carbon austenitic stainless steel with more chromium, nickel, and molybdenum added for improved corrosion resistance and chemical resistance to sulfite, acetic, formic, citric, and tartaric acids. Due to its low carbon content, 317L Pipe resists sensitization when welded and has higher creep, rupture stress, and tensile strength at elevated temperatures. It is nonmagnetic in the annealed condition, although it may become somewhat magnetic after welding.
317L seamless pipe is commonly used in the handling of sulfur, pulp liquors, acid dyes, acetylation and nitration mixtures, bleaching solutions, heavy coal and petroleum, and many chemical compounds. Some other applications using 317L alloy include:
