A Global Leader in Stainless Steel Pipe Fabrication Services Martensitic 410 stainless steel pipe, like most non-stainless steels, can be toughened by a 'quench and temper' heat treatment. With at least 11.5% chromium, it resists corrosion effectively. Its peak corrosion resistance is achieved when tempered and polished after hardening. This general-purpose stainless steel pipe is typically hardened but remains machinable. Ideal for applications needing moderate heat and corrosion resistance combined with high strength, 410 stainless steel pipe stands out for its high hardness. However, this results in some property compromises, such as poor weldability, which can be managed during fabrication. A final heat treatment is often necessary. Compared to austenitic stainless steels, martensitic grades have lower corrosion resistance and diminished ductility at sub-freezing temperatures, losing strength above freezing due to over-tempering. Therefore, their operational temperature range is limited. The 410 stainless steel pipe, a widely used 12% chromium martensitic stainless steel, can be heat-treated for various mechanical properties, offering high strength and hardness alongside good corrosion resistance. It is ductile, forgeable, and magnetic in all conditions, but not recommended for severe corrosion environments.

Quick Response

  • Corrosion Resistance
    Grade 410 is resistant to a variety of environments including dry air, fresh water, mild bases and acids, foods, steam, and hot gases.
    For maximum heat and corrosion resistance, 410 stainless steel must be hardened. It performs best with a smooth, polished surface.
    Heat Resistance
    Grade 410 offers good resistance to scaling up to approximately 650°C. However, it is not generally recommended for use at temperatures between 400 and 580°C, as mechanical properties are reduced in this range.
    Heat Treatment
    For full annealing, heat to 815-900°C, then cool slowly in a furnace to 600°C before air cooling.
    Process annealing involves heating to 650-760°C, followed by air cooling.
    Welding
    410 stainless steel can be easily welded by standard methods. Preheating to 150-260°C and post-weld annealing are recommended to minimize cracking.

    The standard martensitic stainless steel alloy 410 is used for severely stressed parts and offers excellent corrosion resistance in addition to high strength and hardness. A minimum of 11.5% chromium is present in Alloy 410, which is just enough to show corrosion resistant qualities in steam, many moderate chemical conditions, and mild atmospheres. This all-purpose grade is often provided in a hardened yet machinable state for uses requiring a high degree of strength along with moderate heat and corrosion resistance. 410 Grade Stainless Steel pipes in a Variety of Finishes

Our stainless steel pipes (sometimes called steel pipes) are available in a range of beautiful finishes: brushed finish, 2B smooth finish or 8K mirror finish.

The finished side of each stainless steel pipe we supply is coated with a film. This film is easily peeled off after fabrication or installation and protects the surface of the material from wear and marks. The back side is unfinished.

410 Grade Stainless Steel pipe is the most commonly used variety. It is easily weldable, formable, and has good corrosion resistance.
