As a premier manufacturer and supplier, Daxun Alloy provides high-quality Grade 5 Titanium Pipes globally, acclaimed by many engineering projects.
Ti 6Al-4V (Grade 5 Titanium) is the most utilized titanium alloy tube, accounting for over 50% of total titanium usage. It is commonly used in an annealed state with an operating temperature up to 400°C (750°F), employing matching or ELI filler wire for welding. It offers higher strength than commercial pure titanium tubes with improved stiffness and thermal properties (excluding thermal conductivity). Grade 5 titanium has about 60% lower thermal conductivity than CP titanium, can be heat-treated for enhanced performance, and boasts excellent formability, low density, and superior corrosion resistance.
This grade perfectly combines strength, corrosion resistance, weldability, and machinability. Widely used in military aircraft and aviation, rocket parts, precision-guided components, armor parts, ship equipment, military vacuum equipment, and surgical implants like 6-4ELI. Suitable for temperatures up to 400°C, it greatly improves ductility and toughness in cold working conditions. Typically provided in the annealed state, it is easily heat-treated for increased strength across various applications. Ti 6Al-4V titanium seamless tube offers a versatile range of properties from -210°C to 400°C, making it the most commercialized titanium alloy, excelling in strength and toughness with superb welding and processing characteristics.

INTRODUCTION
- DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 Alloy Tube (UNS R56400) is the most sought-after titanium alloy, celebrated for its exceptional properties. This duplex alpha+beta titanium alloy employs aluminium as an alpha stabiliser and vanadium as a beta stabiliser, ensuring robust performance even at cryogenic temperatures of around 800°F (427°C). Renowned for its high strength, DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy finds versatile applications across various high-demand sectors. It is indispensable in annealing, solution treatment, and ageing processes. Typical uses include compressor blades, discs, and rings for jet engines, fuselage and space capsule components, pressure containers, *** cases, helicopter rotor hubs, fasteners, and critical forgings where a high strength-to-weight ratio is paramount.
- The alloy undergoes initial melting using advanced techniques such as vacuum arc (VAR), electron beam (EB), or plasma arc hearth melting (PAM). Subsequent remelting is performed in one or two vacuum arc steps, ensuring optimal alloy integrity.
SPECIFICATIONS
• ASTE B338 - Standard for heat-treatable titanium tubes
• AMS 4928 - Specifications for forgings and forging stock (annealed)
• AMS 4965 - Standards for forgings (solution treated and aged)
• AMS 4967 - Criteria for forgings (annealed, heat-treatable)
PHYSICAL PROPERTIES
- Melting Range: 2,800-3,000°F (1,538 - 1,649°C)
- Density: 0.160 lbs/cu. in.; 4.47 gm/cc
- Beta Transus Temperature: 1830°F (± 25°); 999°C (± 14°)
HEAT TREATMENT
- Annealing at 1,700-1,900°F (927 - 1,038°C) is recommended for achieving high hardness, tensile, and fatigue strength.
- DAXUN 6-4™, Grade 5 Alloy can undergo various heat treatment methods.
- 1. Anneal: 1,275 -1,400°F; (691 - 760°C) for ½ to 2 hours, then air or furnace cool.
- 2. Stress Relief Anneal: 1,000 -1,200°F; (538 - 649°C) for 1 to 8 hours, then air or furnace cool.

- 4. Aging Treatment: 975 -1,025°F; (524 - 552°C) for 4 to 8 hours, then air cool.
- In the solution treated and aged condition, the finest properties are achieved with small cross sections that are rapidly quenched. For larger sections or when there is a quench delay, the properties may not reach the optimal values.
In the solution treated and aged condition, the best properties are often found in smaller cross-sections that are quickly quenched. Larger sections or delays in quenching can result in properties that are less than optimal.
HARDNESS
Typical hardness values are Rockwell C 30-34 in the annealed condition and about Rockwell C 35-39 in the solution treated and aged condition.
FORGEABILITY/ FORMABILITY
- DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy tubes should be forged at 1,750°F (954°C), finishing at 1,450°F (788°C). To achieve optimal results, a reduction of at least 35% in forging is recommended.
- DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy poses challenges in forming at room temperature, even when annealed. Consequently, rigorous forming operations like bending or stretching can be executed on annealed material at elevated temperatures up to 1,200°F (649°C) without compromising its mechanical integrity. For hot sizing or forming, creep forming is viable within a temperature range of 1,000 to 1,200°F (538 to 649°C).
MACHINABILITY
- DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy is machinable using techniques suitable for austenitic stainless steels, characterized by slow speeds, heavy feeds, and rigid setup.
This requires robust tooling and abundant non-chlorinated cutting fluid for optimal results.
WELDABILITY
- DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Grade 5 Alloy Titanium Tube is readily weldable in both annealed and solution-treated forms. Ageing processes can be applied during post-weld heat treatment.
- Precautions are crucial to prevent contamination by oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Fusion welding should be performed in an inert gas-filled chamber or with an inert gas tail shield to protect the molten metal and adjacent hot zones. Spot welding, seam welding, and flash welding can be conducted without a protective environment.
SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS
- DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy risks hydrogen contamination from improper pickling, and it can absorb oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during processes like forging, heat treatment, and brazing. Such contamination may diminish ductility and affect notch sensitivity and forming characteristics.
