When it comes to producing titanium bars, Daxun is the one you can trust.

Hot-rolled Titanium bars
Titanium bars are heated in the rolling mill and rolled through multiple passes. The specifications are complete and the performance meets the standards and requirements.
Cold-drawn bright titanium bars
Cold-drawn titanium bars are titanium bars drawn under cold working conditions. They have a smooth surface and can also be polished and ground.
Forged titanium bars
Forged titanium bars are forged multiple times to improve the mechanical properties and higher strength of the titanium bars.

Additionally, our comprehensive stock program at our service center ensures just-in-time delivery, meeting your specific needs efficiently.

SPECIFICATIONS

AMS 4928 - Bars, Forgings, and Forging Stock (Annealed)

AMS 4965 - Bars, Forgings (Solution treated and aged)

AMS 4967 - Bars, Forgings (Annealed, Heat Treatable)

HEAT TREATMENT

  • To achieve high hardness, tensile strength, and fatigue strength, the annealing process can be performed at temperatures ranging from 1,700-1,900°F (927 - 1,038°C).
DAXUN 6-4™ Grade 5 alloy offers versatile heat treatment options to suit various applications.
  • 1. Anneal: Heat at 1,275 - 1,400°F (691 - 760°C) for ½ to 2 hours, then cool in air or furnace.
  • 2. Stress Relief Anneal: Heat at 1,000 - 1,200°F (538 - 649°C) for 1 to 8 hours, then cool in air or furnace.
  • 3. Solution Heat Treat: Heat at 1,675 - 1,750°F (913 - 954°C) for 1 hour, then quench in water.
  • 4. Aging: Heat at 975 - 1,025°F (524 - 552°C) for 4 to 8 hours, then cool in air.

In the solution-treated and aged condition, rapid quenching of smaller sections ensures optimal properties. However, larger sections or delayed quenching may result in less than optimal properties.

HARDNESS

The typical hardness in the annealed condition is between Rockwell C 30-34, and in the solution and aged condition, it ranges from Rockwell C 35-39.

Forgeability/Formability

  • The Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy bar is forged at 1,750°F (954°C) with a final forging temperature of 1,450°F (788°C). To achieve optimal properties, a minimum of 35% reduction is recommended.
  • Forming the Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy bar at room temperature is challenging, even in the annealed condition. For severe forming operations like bending or stretching, the material can be annealed at temperatures up to 1,200°F (649°C) without affecting its mechanical properties. Additionally, hot sizing or forming can be performed through creep forming within the range of 1,000 - 1,200°F (538 - 649°C).

Machinability

The Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy bar can be machined using methods suitable for austenitic stainless steel. This involves slow machining speeds, high feeds, rigid tools, and the use of large amounts of non-chlorinated cutting fluids.

Weldability

The Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy rod is readily weldable in both the annealed and solution-treated, partially aged conditions, with aging achieved during post-weld heat treatment. To prevent contamination with oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen, precautions must be taken. Fusion welding should be performed in an inert gas-filled chamber or with inert gas to protect the molten metal and adjacent heated zones, using a tail shield. Additionally, spot, seam, and flash welding can be performed without a protective atmosphere.

Special Considerations

Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 titanium alloy rods can be susceptible to contamination by hydrogen through improper pickling, and by oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during processes like forging, heat treating, and brazing. Such contamination may lead to a reduction in ductility, negatively impacting the material's notch sensitivity and forming characteristics.

Grade 2 Titanium Rod

Corrosion Resistance

Titanium should be avoided in environments containing strong reducing acids, fluoride solutions, pure oxygen, or anhydrous ***, as these conditions can compromise its integrity.

General Corrosion

The general corrosion rates for Grade 2 titanium in various media are illustrated in Table 1. CP titanium demonstrates impressive corrosion resistance across a diverse range of environments including:

  • Seawater and Brines
  • Inorganic Salts
  • Moist *** Gas
  • Alkaline Solutions
  • Oxidizing Acids
  • Organics and Organic Acids
  • Sulfur Compounds

Crevice Corrosion

CP titanium exhibits superior resistance to crevice corrosion in salt solutions, outperforming stainless steels. It maintains its integrity at temperatures below 80°C (176°F) regardless of pH, even under highly chlorinated conditions.

Stress Corrosion Cracking

Grade 2 titanium offers exceptional resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in hot chloride solutions and remains unaffected by SCC in seawater.

Erosion Corrosion

Titanium shows outstanding resistance to erosion in flowing
seawater with velocities up to 130 ft/sec (40 m/sec), experiencing minimal impact on material integrity. The presence of abrasive particles like sand has an insignificant effect on its corrosion resistance.

Hydrogen Embrittlement

Titanium absorbs negligible amounts of hydrogen even in seawater, even at elevated temperatures. Significant hydrogen absorption only occurs under the following conditions:

  1. pH is < 3 or > 12
  2. Temperature exceeds 176°F (80°C)
  3. There is a mechanism for hydrogen generation, such as a galvanic couple or an impressed current.

Bio-Corrosion

Titanium alloys exhibit a remarkable immunity to all forms of microbiologically influenced corrosion. Although biofouling can occur due to their non-toxic nature towards marine organisms, this can be mitigated through chlorination or by increasing water velocity through heat exchangers.

Corrosion Fatigue

Titanium, unlike many other materials, exhibits exceptional resistance to fatigue even in the presence of seawater. Remarkably, both its fatigue endurance limits and fatigue *** growth rates remain consistent whether subjected to air or seawater.

Galvanic Corrosion

In the galvanic series, titanium is positioned near the noble end close to stainless steels and typically acts as the cathode when paired with other metals. Consequently, titanium remains unaffected by galvanic corrosion but can accelerate the corrosion of the other metal. When coupled with more noble metals, such as graphite, titanium's passivity is further enhanced.

Fatigue Properties

Distinct from many other materials, Grade 2 Titanium Rod retains its fatigue properties even when exposed to seawater. The fatigue endurance limits and fatigue *** growth rates remain identical, regardless of whether the testing environment is air or seawater.

Weldability

The CP2 Grade Titanium Rod is exceptionally weldable, provided that specific precautions are observed. Due to titanium's high reactivity, an inert gas shield must be used on both the OD and ID of the rod, ensuring it is free from any grease or oil contamination.

Grade 2 Titanium Rods are commonly welded using manual or automatic TIG welding techniques, with or without filler wire. Using low heat input is advisable to minimize the heat-affected zone. Typically, post-weld heat treatment is not required for Titanium Rods.
