Ti 6Al-4V (Grade 5 Titanium) is the most widely used titanium alloy, accounting for more than 50% of total titanium usage. It is typically used in the annealed state and can operate at temperatures up to 400°C (750°F). Ti 6Al/4V is welded with matching or ELI filler wire and offers significantly higher strength than commercial pure titanium tubes. These premium-grade tubes are meticulously supplied in hot-rolled or hot-extruded forms, then expertly straightened, and precision-machined both inside and out. The surface is polished to perfection. Available in both heat-treated and non-heat-treated forms, each tube is subjected to 100% ultrasonic flaw detection, ensuring unmatched quality.
Titanium Tube Materials Available:
Hot-rolled Titanium Tubes: Outer diameters ranging from 19mm to 325mm, wall thicknesses between 9mm to 30mm, and lengths up to 5000mm (dimensions can be customized upon agreement between the manufacturer and the customer); - Hot-extruded Titanium Tubes: Outer diameters ranging from 50mm to 160mm, wall thicknesses between 7mm to 35mm, and lengths up to 3000mm (adjustable upon mutual agreement).
Cold-finished Titanium Tubes
Cold-finished Titanium Tubes are provided in heat-treated forms, with surface etching, and undergo rigorous hydrostatic or ultrasonic testing as per manufacturing specifications. Tubes available: Outer diameters from 6mm to 89mm, wall thicknesses from 0.5mm to 11mm, and lengths up to 6000mm (customizable upon mutual agreement).

Titanium Welded Pipes
DaXun excels in manufacturing titanium pipes with diameters from 100mm to 12.7-38.1mm (0.47 in to 1.5 in), wall thicknesses from 0.4mm to 1.65mm (0.016 in to 0.065 in, dependent on diameter), and lengths stretching up to 25000mm. These pipes are crafted from flat rolled material using advanced automatic tungsten inert gas (argon) welding, followed by heat treatment on the mill line. Each finished pipe undergoes stringent mechanical testing, precise geometrical measurements, comprehensive 100% ultrasonic and eddy current testing, as well as pneumatic or hydrostatic testing. INTRODUCTION

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 Alloy Tube (UNS R56400) is the premier choice among titanium alloys. This duplex alpha+beta alloy, stabilized by aluminium and vanadium, excels at cryogenic temperatures up to 800°F (427°C). Renowned for its high tensile strength, this alloy is ideal for demanding applications such as jet engine components (compressor blades, discs, rings), aerospace structures (fuselage and space capsules), pressure vessels, *** casings, helicopter rotor hubs, fasteners, and high-strength forgings.
  • The alloy undergoes initial melting via vacuum arc remelting (VAR), electron beam (EB), or plasma arc hearth melting (PAM). Subsequent remelting is performed in one or two additional vacuum arc stages to ensure purity and consistency.

HEAT TREATMENT

  • For optimal hardness, tensile, and fatigue strength, anneal at 1,700-1,900°F (927 - 1,038°C).
  • DAXUN 6-4™, Grade 5 Alloy offers multiple heat treatment methods to suit varied requirements.
  • 1. Anneal: Maintain at 1,275 -1,400°F (691 - 760°C) for ½ to 2 hours, followed by air or furnace cooling.
  • 2. Stress Relief Anneal: Keep at 1,000 -1,200°F (538 - 649°C) for 1 to 8 hours, then air or furnace cool.
  • 3. Solution Heat Treatment: Heat to 1,675 -1,750°F (913 - 954°C) for 1 hour, then quench in water.
  • 4. Aging Treatment: Heat at 975 -1,025°F (524 - 552°C) for 4 to 8 hours, followed by air cooling.
  • Achieving the best properties in the solution treated and aged condition is contingent on rapid quenching of small cross sections. Larger sections or quench delays may result in suboptimal properties.
    Hardness may be compromised if quench delays occur or with larger sections, thus not reaching optimum values.

HARDNESS

In its annealed state, the typical hardness level is Rockwell C 30-34. In the solution and aged condition, hardness typically ranges between Rockwell C 35-39.

FORGEABILITY/ FORMABILITY

  • Forging of DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy tubes is conducted at 1,750°F (954°C), with the final forging temperature at 1,450°F (788°C). To achieve optimal results, a reduction of at least 35% is recommended.
  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy, renowned for its challenging formability at room temperature, retains its mechanical integrity even after undergoing rigorous forming techniques such as bending or stretching at elevated temperatures up to 1,200°F (649°C). Hot sizing or forming is efficiently achieved through creep forming within a temperature range of 1,000 to 1,200°F (538 to 649°C), ensuring the material's superior performance.

MACHINABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy exemplifies precision machining, adopting methodologies akin to austenitic stainless steels, which include slower speeds, more substantial feeds, and steadfast
    tooling, complemented by the usage of ample non-chlorinated cutting fluids to maintain cutting efficiency and material integrity.
