Ti 6Al-4V (Grade 5 Titanium) is the most utilized titanium alloy, representing over 50% of total titanium use. Typically annealed, it operates up to 400°C (750°F) and is welded with matching or ELI filler wire. It provides significantly higher strength than commercially pure titanium, with enhanced stiffness and thermal properties (excluding thermal conductivity). The thermal conductivity of Grade 5 titanium is about 60% lower than CP titanium. Among its benefits, it can be heat treated for optimal strength and performance, offering strong formability, low density, and excellent corrosion resistance.

Titanium Welded Pipes
DaXun excels in manufacturing and supplying titanium pipes with diameters ranging from 12.7 mm to 38.1 mm (0.47 in to 1.5 in), wall thicknesses from 0.4 to 1.65 mm (0.016 in to 0.065 in), and lengths up to 25000 mm. Our pipes, made from premium Gr1, Gr2, and Gr12 titanium alloys, serve the engineering and chemical industries. These welded pipes, produced from flat rolled materials via automatic tungsten inert gas (argon) welding, undergo rigorous heat treatment on the mill line. Each finished pipe is subjected to comprehensive mechanical testing, geometrical measurements, and extensive 100% ultrasonic and eddy current testing, along with pneumatic or hydrostatic assessments. INTRODUCTION

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 Alloy Tube (UNS R56400) stands as the most sought-after titanium alloy, renowned for its exceptional performance. This duplex alpha+beta titanium alloy incorporates aluminium as an alpha stabiliser and vanadium as a beta stabiliser, delivering unmatched strength that remains reliable even at cryogenic temperatures approaching 800°F (427°C). ATI Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy is meticulously engineered for annealing, solution treatment, and ageing processes. It finds pivotal applications in compressor blades, discs, and rings for jet engines; fuselage and space capsule components; pressure vessels; *** cases; helicopter rotor hubs; fasteners; and critical forgings, offering an unparalleled strength-to-weight ratio.
  • The alloy is initially produced through vacuum arc (VAR), electron beam (EB), or plasma arc hearth melting (PAM) techniques. Subsequent remelting occurs through one or two vacuum arc steps to ensure superior quality.

HEAT TREATMENT

  • Annealing at 1,700-1,900°F (927 - 1,038°C) is recommended for achieving high hardness, tensile, and fatigue strength.
  • DAXUN 6-4™, Grade 5 Alloy can be subjected to various heat treatment methods.
  • 1. Anneal: 1,275 - 1,400°F (691 - 760°C), ½ to 2 hours, air or furnace cool
  • 2. Stress Relief Anneal: 1,000 - 1,200°F (538 - 649°C), 1 to 8 hours, air or furnace cool
  • 3. Solution Heat Treatment: 1,675 - 1,750°F (913 - 954°C), 1 hour, water quench
  • 4. Aging Treatment: 975 - 1,025°F (524 - 552°C), 4 to 8 hours, air cool
  • In the solution treated and aged condition, peak properties are achieved with small cross-sections that are rapidly quenched. However, larger sections sizes or a quench delay might lead to suboptimal properties.
    For larger section sizes and/or delayed quenching, the achieved properties may be lower than the optimum values.

HARDNESS

Typical hardness in the annealed condition is Rockwell C 30-34, whereas in the solution and aged condition, it ranges around Rockwell C 35-39.

FORGEABILITY/FORMABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy tubes are expertly forged at 1,750°F (954°C), with an end forging temperature of 1,450°F (788°C). For optimal shaping, a reduction of at least 35% is recommended to achieve superior results.
  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy is renowned for its robustness, even when annealed. At room temperature, it poses significant challenges for forming. However, it can withstand rigorous forming operations such as bending or stretching at elevated temperatures up to 1,200°F (649°C) without compromising its mechanical properties. Creep forming is ideal for hot sizing or forming within a temperature range of 1,000 to 1,200°F (538 to 649°C).

MACHINABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy exhibits excellent machinability similar to austenitic stainless steels. It requires slow speeds, heavy feeds, and rigid
    tooling, complemented by copious amounts of non-chlorinated cutting fluid to ensure precision and efficiency.

It's a unique blend of alpha+beta titanium alloy, utilizing aluminum as the alpha stabilizer and vanadium as the beta stabilizer. This high-strength marvel is operable at temperatures as low as 800°F (427°C). It's widely employed for annealing, solution treating, and aging. Applications span from jet engine compressor blades, disks, and rings to fuselage and space capsule components, pressure vessels, *** cases, helicopter rotor hubs, fasteners, and critical forgings requiring a high strength-to-weight ratio.

2. Stress Relief Annealing: This method requires temperatures ranging from 1,000 - 1,200°F (538 - 649°C) for a period of 1 to 8 hours, followed by air or furnace cooling to alleviate internal stresses.
3. Solution Heat Treating: Conducted at temperatures of 1,675 - 1,750°F (913 - 954°C) for 1 hour, with subsequent water quenching to ensure optimal solution treatment of the material.
4. Aging: Performed at 975 - 1,025°F (524 - 552°C) for 4 to 8 hours, followed by air cooling to enhance the mechanical properties of the alloy.

Optimum Properties

Optimum properties are obtained with small cross sections and rapid quenching in the solution treated and aged condition. Larger cross-sections or delayed quenching may lead to suboptimal characteristics.

Hardness

In the annealed condition, the typical hardness is Rockwell C 30-34. Under solution and aged conditions, it reaches approximately Rockwell C 35-39, indicating excellent hardness characteristics.
