CORROSION RESISTANCE Alloy 2205 possesses remarkable resistance to chloride-induced pitting and stress corrosion cracking, making it highly reliable.
ELEVATED TEMPERATURE RESISTANCE The ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code sets an upper temperature limit of 600°F (315°C). Prolonged exposure to higher temperatures can result in embrittlement.
MECHANICAL PROPERTIES Alloy 2205 boasts more than twice the strength of conventional austenitic stainless steels in the annealed condition. It can also be supplied in the cold-worked condition with yield strength surpassing 160 ksi, maintaining good toughness at temperatures down to -50°F (-10°C).
WORKABILITY Alloy 2205 is highly adaptable to cold forming. Due to its high work-hardening rate, intermediate anneals may be necessary. Annealing is also recommended post hot forming or cold forming to achieve optimal stress corrosion resistance.
Our forming capabilities are unmatched, featuring cutting-edge extrusion and cold-working technology for tube and pipe manufacturing. We pride ourselves on having one of the world's largest pilger mills and a unique hydroforming process for precision fittings.

Duplex 2205 stainless steel pipe is a high-performance duplex ferritic-austenitic stainless steel featuring 22% chromium, 3% molybdenum, and 5-6% nickel. Renowned for its exceptional yield strength, which is double that of standard austenitic grades, Duplex 2205 also boasts outstanding fatigue strength. It excels in resisting stress corrosion cracking, crevice, pitting, erosion, and general corrosion, even under the most severe conditions.
For optimal results, manufacturers recommend a maximum hot forming temperature between 2010 and 2100°F (1100 and 1150°C). Ensuring the workpiece is compact is crucial to avoid cracking in cooler areas.
Our Duplex 2205 Stainless Steel Tube is renowned for its exceptional formability across numerous manufacturing processes. However, its impressive high strength can present challenges. Even with powerful equipment, the increased springback inherent to this grade must be carefully managed to ensure optimal results.
Machining Duplex 2205 is somewhat more complex compared to 300 series austenitic stainless steels. It demands higher cutting forces, leading to faster tool wear. To achieve the best results, adhere to the following guidelines: A) Utilize a powerful, rigid machine equipped with robust tool and workpiece mounts; B) Keep tool extensions minimal to reduce vibration; C) Ensure the tool nose radius is no longer than necessary, maintaining a sharp carbide edge while providing enough strength; D) Sequence machining operations to keep the depth of cut always below the previously work-hardened layer.
