Grade 5 titanium alloy rod (titanium aluminum vanadium alloy) stands as the most extensively used α-β titanium alloy, representing 50% of global titanium alloy consumption. Distinguished by its full heat treatability, it performs optimally at temperatures up to 400°C. Boasting a low density (4.43 kg/dm³), exceptional corrosion resistance, and superior mechanical strength, Grade 5 titanium alloy impresses with its high tensile strength at ambient temperature and commendable creep resistance at temperatures up to 300°C. Its robust *** and fatigue resistance, coupled with the age-hardening ability of the 6AL-4V titanium alloy rod, make it an unparalleled choice for fasteners and components in demanding conditions. Its enhanced machinability and weldability diversify its applications across numerous industrial sectors.

AMS 4928 - Bars, Forgings, and Forging Stock (Annealed)
AMS 4965 - Bars, Forgings (Solution treated and aged)
AMS 4967 - Bars, Forgings (Annealed, Heat Treatable)
In the solution treated and aged condition, rapid quenching of smaller sections yields prime properties. Larger sections or delayed quenching may result in suboptimal properties.
Typical hardness in the annealed condition ranges from Rockwell C 30-34, whereas in the solution treated and aged condition, it is about Rockwell C 35-39.
The Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy bar exhibits machinability akin to that of austenitic stainless steel. To achieve optimal results, slow machining speeds, high feed rates, and rigid tooling are essential, along with copious use of non-chlorinated cutting fluids.
Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy rod is well-suited for welding in both annealed and solution/partially aged conditions, with aging achieved as part of post-weld heat treatment. Special precautions are necessary to prevent contamination from oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Fusion welding can be effectively performed in an inert gas-filled chamber or using an inert gas to shield the molten metal and adjacent heated zones, supplemented by a tail shield. Spot, seam, and flash welding can be executed without a protective atmosphere.
The Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 titanium alloy rod is susceptible to hydrogen contamination from improper pickling, and to oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon contamination during processes such as forging, heat treating, and brazing. Such contamination can significantly reduce ductility, adversely affecting notch sensitivity and forming characteristics.
We custom-produce bars according to your specifications.
Our products feature excellent surface quality and straightness, flawless roundness, and the tightest diameter tolerances (up to h5 as per ISO 286-2). Available in straightened, ground, and polished conditions.

Usage Advisory: Avoid using titanium with strong reducing acids, fluoride solutions, pure oxygen, or anhydrous *** to prevent material degradation.
Comprehensive Corrosion Data: The general corrosion rates for Grade 2 titanium across various media are provided in Table 1. CP titanium shows impressive corrosion resistance in diverse environments including:
Superior Crevice Corrosion Resistance: CP titanium shows excellent resistance in salt solutions compared to stainless steels, remaining effective below 80°C (176°F) regardless of pH, even under highly chlorinated conditions.
Outstanding SCC Resistance: Grade 2 titanium provides exceptional resistance to stress corrosion cracking in hot chloride solutions and is immune to SCC in seawater.
Erosion Corrosion Resistance: Titanium exhibits excellent resistance to erosion in flowing environments.
Seawater with velocities up to 130 ft/sec (40 m/sec) shows negligible effect on the material. The presence of abrasive particles, such as sand, has only a minimal impact on corrosion.
There is no significant absorption of hydrogen into titanium exposed to seawater, even at higher temperatures. Typically, hydrogen absorption occurs only when three specific conditions are met:
Titanium alloys have demonstrated exceptional immunity to all forms of microbiologically influenced corrosion. Since titanium alloys do not display any toxicity towards marine organisms, biofouling can occur in seawater. This can be minimized by chlorination or by increasing the water velocity through the heat exchanger.
Titanium, unlike many other materials, does not exhibit a decrease in fatigue performance in the presence of seawater. Both fatigue endurance limits and fatigue *** growth rates remain the same whether tested in air or seawater.
In the galvanic series, titanium is positioned towards the noble end near stainless steels and will generally act as the cathode when paired with other metals. Therefore, titanium will not be affected by galvanic corrosion but can accelerate the corrosion of the other metal. Coupling titanium with more noble metals, such as graphite, further enhances titanium's passivity.
Unlike many other materials, Grade 2 Titanium Rod does not degrade in fatigue properties when exposed to seawater. Fatigue endurance limits and fatigue *** growth rates remain constant whether tested in air or seawater.
CP2 Grade Titanium Rod is highly weldable, provided that the necessary precautions are taken. Due to titanium's reactivity, an inert gas shield must be placed on both the OD and ID of the rod. The material must also be free of any grease or oil contamination.
Grade 2 Titanium Rod is typically welded using manual or automatic TIG welding, with or without filler wire. Low heat input should be used to minimize the size of the heat-affected zone. Titanium Rod is not typically post-weld heat treated.
