As a premier manufacturer and supplier of titanium alloy tubes in China, Daxun Alloy offers top-notch Grade 5 titanium pipes globally, garnering acclaim from numerous projects.

Ti 6Al-4V (Grade 5 Titanium) is the most prevalent titanium alloy tube, representing over 50% of total titanium usage. Typically used in an annealed state, it operates up to 400°C (750°F). When welded, matching or ELI filler wire is used. Ti 6Al/4V titanium tubes boast substantially higher strength and better stiffness compared to commercial pure titanium tubes, with superior thermal properties (excluding thermal conductivity, which is about 60% lower). This alloy can be heat treated to achieve enhanced strength and performance, offering benefits like excellent formability, low density, and remarkable corrosion resistance.

This versatile grade is the epitome of strength, corrosion resistance, weldability, and machinability, making it indispensable in a multitude of high-stakes applications. Ideal for military and aviation sectors, it serves critical roles in military aircraft, rocket components, precision-guided munitions, armor parts, ship equipment, and military vacuum devices. Additionally, the closely related 6-4ELI variant is extensively utilized in surgical implants. Capable of withstanding temperatures up to 400°C, it enhances ductility and toughness, particularly in cold working conditions, while boasting remarkable specific strength. Typically supplied in an annealed state, it can be heat-treated to elevate its strength for diverse applications. As a universally applicable titanium alloy, the Ti 6Al-4V seamless tube showcases a broad spectrum of superior properties across temperatures from -210°C to 400°C. Grade 5 titanium alloy tube stands as the most commercialized titanium alloy, blending high strength with exceptional toughness, and offering superb welding and processing characteristics.

Ti-6Al-4V - Grade 5 Titanium Tube

  • Titanium Alloy - (UNS R56400)

INTRODUCTION

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 Alloy Tube (UNS R56400) stands as the pinnacle of titanium innovation. This duplex alpha+beta titanium alloy, fortified with aluminium and vanadium, transcends the ordinary by thriving in cryogenic temperatures as low as 800°F (427°C). Renowned for its versatility, the ATI Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy is indispensable in annealing, solution treatment, and aging processes. Our tubes find vital applications in compressor blades, discs, and rings for jet engines; fuselage and space capsule components; pressure containers; *** cases; helicopter rotor hubs; fasteners; and other critical forgings demanding a high strength-to-weight ratio.
  • The alloy's journey begins with an initial melt using advanced vacuum arc (VAR), electron beam (EB) or plasma arc hearth melting (PAM) techniques. Subsequent remelting is accomplished through one or two vacuum arc steps, ensuring superior alloy integrity.

SPECIFICATIONS

• ASTE B338 - Titanium tubes standard, heat treatable
• AMS 4928 - Forgings and forging stock (annealed)
• AMS 4965 - Forgings (solution treated and aged)
• AMS 4967 - Forgings (annealed, heat treatable)

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES

  • Melting Range: 2,800-3,000°F (1,538 - 1,649°C)
  • Density: 0.160 lbs/cu. in.; 4.47 gm/cc

  • In the solution treated and aged condition, optimal properties are achieved in small cross sections through rapid quenching.
Larger section sizes or quench delays might result in properties slightly below the optimum values.

HARDNESS

Typical hardness ranges from Rockwell C 30-34 in the annealed state to Rockwell C 35-39 in the solution and aged states.

FORGEABILITY/ FORMABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy tubes are proficiently forged at 1,750°F (954°C), finishing at 1,450°F (788°C). For superior results, a reduction of at least 35% is advised.
  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy is a challenging material to form at room temperature, even when annealed. Consequently, demanding forming operations such as bending and stretching can be performed on annealed material at elevated temperatures up to 1,200°F (649°C) without affecting its mechanical properties. Additionally, creep forming is suitable for hot sizing or forming within the temperature range of 1,000 to 1,200°F (538 to 649°C).

MACHINABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy can be efficiently machined using techniques applicable to austenitic stainless steels. This includes employing slow speeds, heavy feeds, and rigid setups.
Moreover, large amounts of non-chlorinated cutting fluid should be used to enhance the machining process.

WELDABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Grade 5 Alloy Titanium Tube demonstrates excellent weldability in both the annealed and solution-treated, partially aged states, with aging conducted during post-weld heat treatment.
  • Precautionary measures are necessary to prevent contamination by oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Fusion welding should be executed within an inert gas environment or with an inert gas tail shield applied to the molten metal and adjacent hot zones. Additionally, spot welding, seam welding, and flash welding can be performed without requiring a protective environment.

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy is susceptible to hydrogen contamination due to improper pickling and the absorption of oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during processes such as forging, heat treatment, and brazing. Such contamination can degrade ductility, impacting notch sensitivity and forming characteristics.
