As a premier titanium alloy tube manufacturer and supplier in China, Daxun Alloy delivers top-quality Grade 5 titanium pipes globally, earning high praise from numerous projects.

Ti 6Al-4V (Grade 5 Titanium) is the most extensively used titanium alloy tube, comprising over 50% of total titanium usage. Typically used in the annealed state, it operates at temperatures up to 400°C (750°F). Featuring significantly higher strength than commercially pure titanium tubes, it also offers superior stiffness and thermal properties (excluding thermal conductivity, which is about 60% lower than CP titanium). This grade can be heat treated to further enhance strength and performance. Key benefits include robust formability, low density, and exceptional corrosion resistance.

This exceptional grade combines strength, corrosion resistance, weldability, and machinability, making it ideal for military aircraft, the aviation industry, rocket components, precision-guided parts, armor parts, ship equipment, and military vacuum equipment, among other applications. The close variant, 6-4ELI, is also used in surgical implants. Suitable for applications up to 400°C, it improves ductility and toughness in cold working conditions. With excellent specific strength, it is usually provided in the annealed state and can be heat treated to enhance strength for diverse applications. A versatile general-purpose titanium alloy, Ti 6Al-4V titanium seamless tube exhibits an array of remarkable properties over temperatures ranging from -210°C to 400°C.

INTRODUCTION

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 Alloy Tube (UNS R56400) is the premier choice among titanium alloys. This duplex alpha+beta titanium alloy, utilizing aluminum as an alpha stabilizer and vanadium as a beta stabilizer, exhibits high strength and remarkable versatility. It performs exceptionally well even at cryogenic temperatures near 800°F (427°C). ATI Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy is integral to processes like annealing, solution treatment, and aging. Its applications span across compressor blades, discs, and rings for jet engines; fuselage and space capsule components; pressure vessels; *** cases; helicopter rotor hubs; fasteners; and critical forgings where a high strength-to-weight ratio is paramount.
  • The alloy is initially melted using advanced methods like vacuum arc (VAR), electron beam (EB), or plasma arc hearth melting (PAM). Further refinement is achieved through one or two steps of vacuum arc remelting.

SPECIFICATIONS

• ASTM B338 - Standard for heat-treatable titanium tubes
• AMS 4928 - Specifications for annealed forgings and forging stock
• AMS 4965 - Specifications for solution treated and aged forgings
• AMS 4967 - Specifications for heat-treatable and annealed forgings

For larger sections or when there is a quench delay, properties may fall below optimum values.

HARDNESS

Typical hardness values are Rockwell C 30-34 in the annealed condition, and Rockwell C 35-39 in the solution treated and aged condition.

FORGEABILITY/FORMABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy tubes are forged at an initial temperature of 1,750°F (954°C) with a finishing forging temperature of 1,450°F (788°C). To achieve optimal results, a reduction of at least 35% is recommended.
  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 Alloy showcases exceptional resilience even under extreme conditions. This high-performance material resists form alterations at room temperature, making it ideal for rigorous applications. When annealed, it withstands intense forming processes like bending or stretching at elevated temperatures up to 1,200°F (649°C) without compromising its mechanical integrity. For hot sizing or intricate forming, the alloy excels at temperatures between 1,000 to 1,200°F (538 to 649°C) through advanced creep forming techniques.

MACHINABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 Alloy Titanium Tube can be precision-machined using techniques akin to those employed for austenitic stainless steels. This involves slow speeds, heavy feeds, and a robust setup to ensure accuracy and surface quality.
Employ rigid tooling and copious amounts of non-chlorinated cutting fluid for optimal results.

WELDABILITY

  • The DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Grade 5 Alloy Titanium Tube is renowned for its excellent weldability, whether in the annealed state or after partial solution aging.
  • Post-weld heat treatment is critical, often involving aging to achieve desired properties. It is essential to prevent contamination by oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Fusion welding in an inert gas-filled chamber or using an inert gas tail shield ensures purity. Techniques like spot welding, seam welding, and flash welding are feasible without a protective environment, enhancing versatility.

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS

  • While working with DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 Alloy, vigilance is required to avoid hydrogen contamination from improper pickling and the absorption of oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during various processes like forging, heat treatment, and brazing. Such contamination can significantly impair ductility, leading to reduced notch sensitivity and forming capabilities.
