  • Titanium Alloy - (UNS R56400)

INTRODUCTION

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 Alloy Tube (UNS R56400) stands as the pinnacle of titanium alloys, celebrated for its superior strength and versatility. This duplex alpha+beta titanium alloy harnesses the power of aluminium and vanadium to stabilize its alpha and beta phases, respectively. Exceptionally resilient, it performs admirably even at cryogenic temperatures around 800°F (427°C). Widely adopted in high-stakes industries, the ATI Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy excels in annealing, solution treatment, and ageing processes. It's integral to the construction of compressor blades, discs, and rings for jet engines, as well as fuselage and space capsule components. Its applications extend to pressure containers, *** cases, helicopter rotor hubs, fasteners, and various critical forgings, all boasting an outstanding strength-to-weight ratio.
  • The alloy's initial melting employs sophisticated techniques such as vacuum arc (VAR), electron beam (EB), or plasma arc hearth melting (PAM). The remelting process typically involves one or two steps of vacuum arc remelting.

SPECIFICATIONS

• ASTE B338 - Titanium tubes standard, heat treatable
• AMS 4928 - Forgings and forging stock (annealed)

Larger section sizes and/or quench delays may result in properties that are less than optimal.

HARDNESS

Typical hardness in the annealed condition registers at Rockwell C 30-34, and about Rockwell C 35-39 in the solution and aged condition.

FORGEABILITY/FORMABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy tubes are forged at 1,750°F (954°C), with an end forging temperature of 1,450°F (788°C). To achieve optimal results, a reduction of at least 35% is recommended.
  • The DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Grade 5 Alloy, renowned for its remarkable mechanical properties, is notoriously challenging to form at room temperature, even if annealed. Consequently, rigorous forming procedures such as bending or stretching can be effectively executed on annealed material at temperatures soaring up to 1,200°F (649°C) without compromising its intrinsic mechanical qualities. For precision tasks like hot sizing or forming, creep forming techniques are employed at temperatures ranging from 1,000 to 1,200°F (538 to 649°C).

MACHINABILITY

  • The DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Grade 5 Alloy showcases exceptional machinability when employing techniques akin to those used for austenitic stainless steels. Optimal results are achieved with slow speeds, heavy feeds, and rigid
tooling, complemented by generous applications of non-chlorinated cutting fluids.

WELDABILITY

  • The DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Grade 5 Alloy Titanium Tube excels in weldability, whether in the annealed state or in solution and partially aged forms, with subsequent aging.
  • post-weld heat treatment. It is imperative to adopt stringent measures to prevent contamination by oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Fusion welding can be meticulously performed within an inert gas-filled chamber or by utilizing an inert gas tail shield over the molten metal and adjacent hot zone. Techniques such as spot welding, seam welding, and flash welding can be executed without the necessity for a protective environment.

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS

  • Vigilance is crucial with DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Grade 5 Alloy to prevent hydrogen contamination due to improper pickling processes and to avoid the absorption of oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during forging, heat treatment, brazing, and similar operations. Such contamination can adversely impact ductility, thereby compromising notch sensitivity and forming characteristics.

Ti-6Al-4V Titanium Pipe - Grade 5 Titanium Tube

Titanium Alloy - (UNS R56400)
Introduction
The DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Titanium Tube, Grade 5 (UNS R56400), stands as the most sought-after titanium alloy. This duplex alpha+beta titanium alloy utilizes aluminum as the alpha stabilizer and vanadium as the beta stabilizer. Praised for its high strength, the alloy performs exceptionally at low temperatures reaching approximately 800°F (427°C). The ATI Ti-6Al-4V Grade 5 Alloy is extensively utilized for annealing, solution treating, and aging processes. Its applications include compressor blades, disks, and rings for jet engines, fuselage and space capsule components, pressure vessels, *** cases, helicopter rotor hubs, fasteners, and other critical forgings where a high strength-to-weight ratio is paramount.
The alloy's production begins with initial melting processes involving vacuum arc (VAR), electron beam (EB), or plasma arc hearth melting (PAM). Remelting is then conducted through one or two vacuum arc steps for enhanced purity.
