Daxun Alloy, a leading titanium alloy tube manufacturer and supplier in China, delivers top-tier Grade 5 titanium pipes globally, earning accolades from numerous projects.

Ti 6Al-4V (Grade 5 Titanium) stands as the most extensively used titanium alloy tube, comprising over 50% of total titanium usage. Typically used in the annealed state, it operates efficiently up to 400°C (750°F). Ti 6Al/4V is welded using matching or ELI filler wire. This alloy exhibits significantly higher strength than commercially pure titanium tubes, paired with superior stiffness and thermal properties (excluding thermal conductivity). The thermal conductivity of Grade 5 titanium tube is approximately 60% lower than CP titanium. Among its numerous benefits, it is heat treatable, allowing for enhanced strength and performance. Grade 5 titanium seamless tubes offer remarkable formability, low density, and outstanding corrosion resistance.

This grade embodies an ideal blend of strength, corrosion resistance, weldability, and machinability, making it indispensable in military aircraft, aviation industry, rocket parts, precision-guided components, armor parts, ship equipment, military vacuum equipment, and more. The close variant, 6-4ELI, is also utilized in surgical implants. Typically deployed in applications up to 400°C, it enhances ductility and toughness in cold working conditions. Besides, it possesses excellent specific strength. Generally provided in the annealed state, it can be heat-treated for increased strength across numerous applications. As a versatile titanium alloy, Ti 6Al-4V titanium seamless tube exhibits a wide array of ideal properties at temperatures ranging from -210°C to 400°C. Grade 5 titanium alloy tube is the most commercialized of all titanium alloys, merging high strength with toughness and offering excellent welding and processing characteristics.

  • Titanium Alloy-(UNS R56400)

INTRODUCTION

  • Discover the unparalleled strength and versatility of DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 Alloy Tube (UNS R56400), the most sought-after titanium alloy in the industry. This duplex alpha+beta titanium alloy, enhanced with aluminium (as an alpha stabilizer) and vanadium (as a beta stabilizer), excels in high-performance environments. With applications ranging from cryogenic temperatures up to 800°F (427°C), it is ideal for annealing, solution treatment, and ageing. Widely used in jet engine compressor blades, discs, and rings; fuselage and space capsule components; pressurized containers; *** cases; helicopter rotor hubs; fasteners; and high-strength-to-weight ratio critical forgings.
  • Our alloy begins with vacuum arc (VAR), electron beam (EB), or plasma arc hearth melting (PAM) and undergoes one or two stages of vacuum arc remelting, ensuring unparalleled quality and purity.

SPECIFICATIONS

• ASTM B338 - Standard for Titanium tubes, heat treatable
• AMS 4928 - Specifications for forgings and forging stock (annealed)
• AMS 4965 - Forgings specifications (solution treated and aged)
• AMS 4967 - Specifications for annealed, heat treatable forgings

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES

  • Melting Range: 2,800-3,000°F (1,538 - 1,649°C)
  • Density: 0.160 lbs/cu. in.; 4.47 gm/cc
  • Beta Transus Temperature: 1830°F (± 25°); 999°C (± 14°)

HEAT TREATMENT

  • For applications demanding high hardness, tensile, and fatigue strength, annealing at temperatures between 1,700-1,900°F (927 - 1,038°C) is recommended.
  • The DAXUN 6-4™, Grade 5 Alloy offers versatile heat treatment options to suit various industrial needs.
  • 1. Anneal: Achieve desired properties by annealing at 1,275 -1,400°F (691 - 760°C) for ½ to 2 hours, followed by air or furnace cooling.
  • 2. Stress Relief Anneal: For stress reduction, anneal at 1,000 -1,200°F (538 - 649°C) for 1 to 8 hours, then air or furnace cool.
  • 3. Solution Heat Treatment: Enhance strength with solution heat treatment at 1,675 -1,750°F (913 - 954°C) for 1 hour, followed by water quenching.
  • 4. Aging Treatment: Maximize properties by aging at 975 -1,025°F (524 - 552°C) for 4 to 8 hours, then air cool.
  • Achieve exceptional properties in solution treated and aged conditions, particularly in smaller cross sections that are quickly quenched.
Note that larger cross sections or delays in quenching may result in properties that are slightly below optimal values.

HARDNESS

In the annealed condition, the typical hardness ranges from Rockwell C 30-34. When solution treated and aged, hardness increases to Rockwell C 35-39.

FORGEABILITY/ FORMABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy tubes are forged at 1,750°F (954°C) with an endpoint forging temperature of 1,450°F (788°C). To achieve optimal forgeability, a reduction of at least 35% is recommended.
  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy showcases remarkable resilience, even when annealed, making it challenging to form at room temperature. For more rigorous forming operations like bending or stretching, the alloy can be worked at temperatures as high as 1,200°F (649°C) without compromising its mechanical properties. Additionally, creep forming is an effective method for hot sizing or forming within the temperature range of 1,000 to 1,200°F (538 to 649°C).

MACHINABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy mirrors the machinability of austenitic stainless steels. It requires slow speeds, heavy feeds, and rigid
tooling, along with substantial amounts of non-chlorinated cutting fluid to ensure optimal performance.

WELDABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Grade 5 Alloy Titanium Tube excels in weldability, both in the annealed state and after solution and partial aging treatments.
  • Post-weld heat treatment solidifies strength, while stringent precautions are necessary to prevent oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen contamination. Fusion welding is best conducted in an inert gas environment, with additional protective measures like inert gas tail shields for the molten metal. Techniques such as spot welding, seam welding, and flash welding can also be performed without a protective environment.

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS

  • Proper handling is crucial for DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy to prevent hydrogen contamination from incorrect pickling, and the absorption of oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during processes like forging, heat treatment, and brazing. Such contamination can impair ductility, affecting notch sensitivity and forming properties.

Ti-6Al-4V Titanium Pipe - Grade 5 Titanium Tube
