AMS 4928 - Bars, Forgings, and Forging Stock (Annealed)
AMS 4965 - Bars, Forgings (Solution treated and aged)
AMS 4967 - Bars, Forgings (Annealed, Heat Treatable)
Rapid quenching of small sections in the solution treated and aged condition yields optimal properties. However, larger section sizes and/or delayed quenching may result in less than optimal properties.
The typical hardness in the annealed condition is Rockwell C 30-34, whereas in the solution and aged condition, it ranges from Rockwell C 35-39.
Machining Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy bar can be efficiently achieved using methods designed for austenitic stainless steel, employing slow machining speeds, high feeds, rigid tools, and ample amounts of non-chlorinated cutting fluids.
The Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy rod stands out for its exceptional weldability in both its annealed and solution/partially aged states. Post-weld heat treatment facilitates aging, ensuring optimal strength. However, utmost care is required to prevent contamination from oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Fusion welding should be conducted in an inert gas-filled chamber or using inert gas shields to protect molten metal and adjacent heated zones. Techniques like spot, seam, and flash welding can be performed without a protective atmosphere, ensuring versatility in applications.
When handling Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 titanium alloy rods, it's crucial to avoid contamination from hydrogen during improper pickling, and from oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during processes like forging, heat treating, and brazing. Such contamination can degrade ductility, negatively impacting notch sensitivity and forming capabilities. Proper handling and stringent controls are essential to maintain material integrity.
We produce bars according to your specifications and requirements.
Our bars boast excellent surface quality, superior straightness, impeccable roundness, and the tightest diameter tolerances (up to h5 as per ISO 286-2). They are available in straightened, ground, and polished conditions.

Titanium should be avoided with strong reducing acids, fluoride solutions, pure oxygen, or anhydrous ***.
Table 1 showcases the exceptional general corrosion rates for Grade 2 titanium across various media. Commercially Pure (CP) titanium offers robust corrosion resistance in diverse environments, including:
CP titanium demonstrates superior resistance to crevice corrosion in salt solutions compared to stainless steels, maintaining integrity at temperatures below 80°C (176°F) even under highly chlorinated conditions.
Grade 2 titanium is highly resistant to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in hot chloride solutions and remains immune to SCC in seawater.
Titanium exhibits excellent erosion resistance in flowing
seawater, handling velocities up to 130 ft/sec (40 m/sec) with minimal impact. The presence of abrasive particles like sand has only a minor effect on corrosion.
Titanium shows minimal hydrogen absorption in seawater, even at elevated temperatures. Significant absorption only occurs when the following conditions are met:
Titanium alloys exhibit an exceptional resistance to all types of microbiologically influenced corrosion. Unlike other materials, titanium alloys do not exhibit toxicity to marine life, which means biofouling can occur in seawater. However, this issue can be mitigated through chlorination or by increasing the water velocity in heat exchangers.
Titanium stands apart from many materials as it does not suffer a reduction in fatigue performance when exposed to seawater. Both fatigue endurance limits and fatigue *** growth rates remain consistent whether tested in air or seawater.
In the galvanic series, titanium is positioned near the noble end alongside stainless steels, generally acting as the cathode when paired with other metals. Consequently, titanium remains unaffected by galvanic corrosion but can accelerate the corrosion of the other metal. Pairing titanium with more noble metals, like graphite, further enhances its passivity.
Grade 2 Titanium Rod is unique in that it does not exhibit a decline in fatigue properties when exposed to seawater. Both fatigue endurance limits and fatigue *** growth rates are consistent whether tested in air or seawater.
CP2 Grade Titanium Rod is highly weldable provided appropriate precautions are taken. Due to titanium's reactivity, an inert gas shield must be applied to both the OD and ID of the rod. The material must also be free from any grease or oil contamination.
Grade 2 Titanium Rod is usually welded using manual or automatic TIG welding, with or without filler wire. To minimize the heat-affected zone, low heat input should be used. Generally, post-weld heat treatment is not required for Titanium Rod.
