Hot-finished Titanium Tubes
Our hot-finished titanium tubes are meticulously crafted through hot-rolling or hot-extrusion processes. These tubes feature straightened and precisely machined diameters, both inside and out, with a polished surface finish. Available in both heat-treated and non-heat-treated forms, our tubes undergo rigorous 100% ultrasonic flaw detection to ensure superior quality.
Titanium Tube Materials Available:
Hot-rolled Titanium Tubes: Outer diameter ranging from 19mm to 325mm, wall thickness from 9mm to 30mm, and lengths up to 5000mm (all specifications subject to mutual agreement); - Hot-extruded Titanium Tubes: Outer diameter from 50mm to 160mm, wall thickness ranging from 7mm to 35mm, and lengths up to 3000mm (all specifications subject to mutual agreement).
Cold-finished Titanium Tubes
Our cold-finished titanium tubes are provided in heat-treated, surface-etched forms, and are hydrostatically or ultrasonically tested as per manufacturing specifications. Available dimensions include outer diameters from 6mm to 89mm, wall thickness between 0.5mm and 11mm, and lengths up to 6000mm (all specifications subject to mutual agreement).

Titanium Welded Pipes
DaXun specializes in manufacturing and supplying titanium pipes with diameters ranging from 12.7mm to 38.1mm (0.47in to 1.5in) and wall thickness between 0.4mm and 1.65mm (0.016in to 0.065in), with lengths up to 25000mm. Our pipes are made from Gr1, Gr2, and Gr12 titanium alloy for engineering and chemical industries. Manufactured using flat rolled raw materials welded by automatic tungsten inert gas welding machines and heat-treated on the mill line, each pipe undergoes stringent mechanical testing, dimensional measurements, and 100% ultrasonic and eddy current testing. Additionally, we perform pneumatic or hydrostatic testing, and packing is done as per customer specifications. Our manufacturing processes and inspection test equipment ensure compliance with ASTM B 338, ASME SB 338 standards for thin-wall welded pipes.

INTRODUCTION

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 Alloy Tube (UNS R56400) stands as the premier choice among titanium alloys. This duplex alpha+beta alloy utilizes aluminum as an alpha stabilizer and vanadium as a beta stabilizer. Renowned for its high strength, it operates efficiently even at cryogenic temperatures approaching 800°F (427°C). ATI Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 Alloy excels in various treatments, including annealing, solution treatment, and aging. Its applications are diverse: from jet engine compressor blades, discs, and rings to fuselage and space capsule components, pressure containers, *** cases, helicopter rotor hubs, and fasteners. The alloy's high strength-to-weight ratio makes it indispensable for critical forgings.
  • The alloy is initially crafted using advanced methods such as vacuum arc (VAR), electron beam (EB), or plasma arc hearth melting (PAM). Subsequent remelting occurs through one or two vacuum arc steps, ensuring optimal material quality.

HEAT TREATMENT

  • DAXUN 6-4™, Grade 5 Alloy offers multiple heat treatment options to suit diverse requirements.
  • 1. Anneal: 1,275 -1,400°F (691 - 760°C) for ½ to 2 hours, followed by air or furnace cooling.
  • 2. Stress Relief Anneal: 1,000 -1,200°F (538 - 649°C) for 1 to 8 hours, with air or furnace cooling.
  • 3. Solution Heat Treatment: 1,675 -1,750°F (913 - 954°C) for 1 hour, followed by water quenching.
  • 4. Aging Treatment: 975 -1,025°F (524 - 552°C) for 4 to 8 hours, followed by air cooling.
  • Optimal properties are achieved in the solution treated and aged condition with small cross-sections that are rapidly quenched. Larger sections or delayed quenching may result in suboptimal properties.

HARDNESS

Typical hardness ranges from Rockwell C 30-34 in the annealed condition to Rockwell C 35-39 in the solution and aged condition.

FORGEABILITY/ FORMABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 Alloy tubes are optimally forged at 1,750°F (954°C), with an end forging temperature of 1,450°F (788°C). For the best results, a reduction of at least 35% is recommended.
  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy is known for its formidable strength and difficulty to form at room temperature, even when annealed. Consequently, intense forming operations such as bending or stretching can be executed on annealed material at elevated temperatures up to 1,200°F (649°C) without compromising its exceptional mechanical properties. For hot sizing or forming, creep forming is a viable method at temperatures ranging from 1,000 to 1,200°F (538 to 649°C).

MACHINABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy machined with techniques akin to austenitic stainless steels, employing slow speeds, heavy feeds, and highly stable
    tooling, supplemented with substantial amounts of non-chlorinated cutting fluid to ensure precision and efficiency.

WELDABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Grade 5 Alloy Titanium Tube showcases excellent weldability in both the annealed and solution-aged forms, with ageing carried out during the post-weld heat treatment.
  • It is crucial to take precautions to prevent contamination by oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Fusion welding can be conducted within an inert gas environment or with an inert gas tail shield protecting the molten metal and adjacent hot zones. Techniques like spot welding, seam welding, and flash welding can be performed effectively without a protective environment.

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy is susceptible to hydrogen contamination due to improper pickling, as well as the absorption of oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during forging, heat treatment, brazing, and similar processes. Such contamination can diminish ductility, adversely affecting notch sensitivity and forming characteristics.

Renowned for its high strength, this alloy is operable at low temperatures around 800°F (427°C). ATI Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy is employed for annealing, solution treating, and aging, proving vital for compressor blades, disks, and rings in jet engines, fuselage and space capsule components, pressure vessels, *** cases, helicopter rotor hubs, fasteners, and critical forgings requiring a high strength-to-weight ratio.

Heat Treatment

DAXUN 6-4 Grade 5 Titanium Tube is versatile and can undergo various sophisticated heat treatment processes tailored to specific requirements.
1. Annealing: Achieve optimal results by annealing at temperatures of 1,275 - 1,400°F (691 - 760°C) for ½ to 2 hours, followed by air or furnace cooling.
2. Stress Relief Annealing: To relieve stress, anneal between 1,000 - 1,200°F (538 - 649°C) for 1 to 8 hours, then cool in air or furnace.
3. Solution Heat Treating: Conduct solution heat treatment at 1,675 - 1,750°F (913 - 954°C) for 1 hour, followed by a water quench to lock in properties.
4. Aging: Perform aging at temperatures of 975 - 1,025°F (524 - 552°C) for 4 to 8 hours, then air cool for enhanced strength and durability.

Optimum Properties

For the finest properties, small cross sections should be rapidly quenched in the solution treated and aged state. Larger sections or delayed quenching may not achieve peak performance.

Hardness

In its annealed state, the typical hardness of the material is Rockwell C 30-34. When solution treated and aged, the hardness increases to approximately Rockwell C 35-39.

Forgeability/Formability

DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Titanium Tube, Grade 5 Titanium Tube showcases excellent forgeability at 1,750°F (954°C) with a final forging temperature of 1,450°F (788°C). A reduction of at least 35% is recommended to achieve the best results.

Despite its difficulty to form at room temperature-even when annealed-severe operations such as bending or stretching can be executed on annealed material at temperatures up to 1,200°F (649°C). For hot sizing or forming, creep forming is advisable at temperatures ranging from 1,000 to 1,200°F (538 to 649°C).

Machinability

DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Titanium Tube, Grade 5 Titanium Tube can be machined using techniques similar to those for austenitic stainless steels. Employ slow speeds, high feeds, robust tool rigidity, and ample amounts of non-chlorinated cutting fluids to ensure precision.

Weldability

DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Titanium Tube Grade 5 Titanium Tube is highly weldable in both annealed or solution and partially aged conditions. Aging

should be performed during post-weld heat treatment. To prevent contamination, avoid exposure to oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Fusion welding is best conducted in an inert gas-filled chamber or with an inert gas tail shield over the molten metal and adjacent hot areas. Spot, seam, and flash welding can all be executed without a protective atmosphere.

Special Considerations

DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Titanium Tube, Grade 5 Titanium Tube may become contaminated with hydrogen from improper pickling, as well as absorption of oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during processes like forging, heat treating, and brazing. This contamination can reduce ductility and diminish notch sensitivity and formability.
